Tire Chains
I live in southern Cal, but like to go up to the mountains occasionally to ski. On some days chains are required, so the other day I bought cheap $30 chains from Walmart, but didn't end up needing them. Planning for the future, should I just keep the ones I have or return them and get something better. I'd guess I'll use them on average of 2 or 3 times a year, so I'd like to spend as little as possible without damaging the tires/car. If you think I should return the Walmart chains, any specific low cost recommendations?

I can't reccomend any car chains but I will tell you that I have seen vehicles ripped and torn from chains that did not hold together. I would get the best I could if you must use them. Anthony

I've also heard of severed brake lines from broken chains -- not fun times.
As far as cable style chains go, I highly recommend SCC Shur Grip Z chains.

They run maybe $60-70 a set. I had a set that I've put well over 200 miles on and they have held up okay. They're also a piece of cake to put on.
