For those of you running 18's

Which one of these tire sizes are you using? Whats the best of these choices to run if you want 18's? Sorry for the newb question but what does the 215/40 refer to?

215/40-18 .....3.4in .......12.4in ....24.8in ......77.8in ..............814 ..........-2.7%
215/45-18 .....3.8in .......12.8in ....25.6in ......80.5in ..............787 ..........0.6%
225/40-18 .....3.5in .......12.5in ....25.1in ......78.8in ..............804 ..........-1.5%
225/45-18 .....4.0in .......13.0in ....26.0in ......81.6in ..............777 ..........2.0%
235/40-18 .....3.7in .......12.7in ....25.4in ......79.8in ..............794 ..........-0.2%

Heya,

I have 18s and I'm considering 225/40 or 235/40. I am leaning towards the 235 because it has a higher load rating for the particular tire im looking at but 225 is the recommended size. This number refers to the tire width, 225mm is roughly 8.8 inches. The second number (40 or 45) is the side wall height and the 40 indicates that the sidewall is about 40% of the width of the tire. Say for example you had a tire the size of 225/40, the tire would be 225mm wide (8.8 inches) and the tire wall size would be 40% of the 225 (3.5 inches).

Hope that helps!

Why do you say 225 is the recommended width? I would go for 235/40/18's for a closer match to the stock diameter.

When I do get 18's (whenever that happens ) . . . I too would go with 235/40/18's for the same reason as Dan
