Running 255/35/18 tires with no drop = 4x4?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if i ran 255/35/18 tires on 18x8 wheels, and I have no drop (06 AT), will it look very 4x4ish or rub? I ran the tire calculator and the difference was in the sidewall (stock being 4in and this being 3.5).

If anyone can provide any further insight, that would be great.

Thanks.

Doesn't even matter on tires, it will look like a 4x4 no matter what with no drop.

okay, i think i asked the wrong question. I am more concerned about the rubbing issue with 255 tires than the 4x4 look.

255 is way to wide for the little TSX. The widest you would be able to go is about 235. If you don't lower it might not rub but if you do to get rid of the 4x4 look it will definitely rub.

I just put 245/40/18 on my 06 with no drop and it doesn't rub at all.

Why are you guys running such wide tires on an 8" wheel? You do know that rubbing should be less of a concern when compared to sidewall flex. At those widths, I wouldn't be surprised if your tire rolled over on a hard corner.

It seems there are many on the sight that have little concern for the wheel size when choosing a tire size. You can do pretty much anything (235/45x17 on
OE 17x7 wheels seem popular) but performance suffers.

Agreeing with this. I just got my new 18x8 rims on today and I'm running 235/40/18 tires and it's absolutely perfect. I can't imagine needing any more width than that on an 8" wheel.

235 is pretty much the optimal width for the 8" wheel width. You could go to a 245, but you want to make sure that the offset will keep the tire from extending beyond the fender line.

255 is just too wide unless you're running a 9" wheel and even then, only in the rear.

These are 18x8.5 with 245/40/18, Personally I don't think it looks like a 4x4.

The wheels were a little turned in this pictures but i don't think it stick out the sides, if it does its very minimal.

Ah, I love the 04 TL A-Spec rims. So sexy. Nice, man. As for "4x4" I personally hate that analogy only because my roommate drives a Montero Sport, and I could fit my head between the top of his tire and the bottom of his fender, so it's a stupid exaggeration. But your car could do with at least a slight (A-Spec) drop (in my opinion).

The 245 tires look fine, though. No problem with those on an 8.5" wheel.

I would lower it but people have told me that it might rub if I lower it more than an inch. I have the extended warranty and I don't know if acura will warranty it if anything goes wrong unless I use a-spec, but I could be wrong. I heard that the a-spec kit lowers it more than an inch in the back so it would probably rub.

Talk to rex. He has those wheels (except he painted his gold). I know he had rubbing issues, but he might be able to tell you more specifics about his set up.
