Rim Size Question

Ok I read a few of the post regarding rim and tire sizes but I'm pretty auto illiterate so bare with me please. I'm looking at the Volk SF-Winnings. I'm just still deciding on the size. The 2 choices are...

19 X 8 with an offset of 42mm

or

19 X 8.5 with an offset of 48mm

The tires are going to be Nito NT555 235/35/19.

Will i have trouble having either of these rims on my car?

19x8.5" +48 ---- While I'm not sure if that'll fit (probably won't), I would never run that wide of a wheel with that high of an offset. I mean, stockers are 7" wide and have a +55 offset, which means that the 8.5" +48 would protrude 1.42" further out than the stock wheels AND will intrude .869" further in over stock.

The 19"x8" +42 wheel will stick out 1.406" further than stock and the inboard increase will be .383" closer to the inner suspension. That'll work, but it'll still look like ass imho.

Can anyone confirm what the maximum wheel + tire inboard increase is for this car? I've never really looked at my TSX's suspension yet....

So should I get a lower offset for the 19 x 8?

Here's a link to what volk has to offer for offsets for this rim....

wrong, it'll look perfect. vwong is running 19x8 +40 235/35/19. other than some rubbing b/c he's so low it looks great. I think dzuy has 19x8 +43 as well, ask them.

I'm not wrong. Opinions are NEVER wrong...

I have a set of 17"x8" +42 BBS RK's on my Eclipse. I mounted one of them on my TSX and it looks like total ass because it sticks out too much for my tastes.

Is your TSX lowered? What size tires were on those 17s? I would agree with you if the car is not lowered. However, if the car is lowered, I think 19x8 +42mm would look fine. Here are some pics.

My 19x8 +40mm Volk GT-7, 235/35/19

dzuy's 19x8 +43mm Volk TE37, 235/35/19

Yeah, my TSX is unlowered and the tire size on the 8" wide +42 offset BBS's is 225/45-17.

I agree with you man. You have to be SLAMMED to pull off an 8" rim with a 42 offset on the TSX. Yeah, dzuy and vwongs cars look great, but those are close to 2.5" drops, and both have reported some rubbing issues......

8" 45 is it for me, and I'm close to 2" down......

I really like AlterZgos ride; 8" with a 51 offset.

all of a sudden the cry babies come out of the wood work maybe you need to go to dtmpower.net as well.

This is my car w/ 18x7.5 +42 225/40/18 w/ eibach prokit. 19x8 +42 235/35/19 is a 0.195in increase in outboard size. Yes your opinion is very correct, it'll look like ass

Your car looks good to me with ProKit, but much better with the Tein drop.

I think 7.5" 42 and 225 is really pushing it, but obviously it's all a matter of personal taste. Adding another 1/4" would look too far out for me.

What I really like about AZs car is that while it's not super low, the 51 offset keeps the wheel/tire assembly further inside, which lessens the wheel gap effect. Also, it allows the use of 235s, which besides giving more grip, just looks better on an 8" rim, and also is a bigger overall tire, filling the wheelwell better. And even though the tire is larger, the chances of rubbing are lessened. These are all the tricks that BMW uses to give that factory lowered look.

The only problem is that there are not a ton of choices in the 50+ range, and most of them are $$$.

.195"??

A 19"x8" +42 wheel will stick out 1.406" further than stock. You need to relearn how you do your calculations....

I don't know what wheels you've tried on, but pics don't do it justice. I think joerockt is running the same size as my comps and was very happy, but I know you're picky

Agree, I think AZ's rear wheels look a bit tucked in, the fronts look great though. And like you said, +50 is very rare. I think its up to the buyer to find a good comprimise w/ an offset, drop height, tire width. If you don't drop a lot you're safe w/ any >40, if you do a lot, then you will rub some. If you go w/ 18, then you can pick 225 or 235, etc. There's no one fitment for everyone.

if you'd read the post instead of beign a moron you can see I said 19x8 +42 235/35/19 is .195 farther out than 18x7.5 +42 225/40/18. You have neither lowered your car, nor have aftermarket rims on, so you're best off deferring to people that have some clue.

you qualify your post saying you really don't know anything about the TSX

The poster neither said he was lowered nor unlowered, yet it looks like "ass" to you because you slapped a 17in wheel on your unlowered car. Opinions are wrong, get over it, and go work on your car and come back and give an educated response.

Who measures the difference between two different widths and offsets where one of the wheels isn't stock? Comparing a wheel to stock is the easiest way for others to get a good idea of how a different wheel will sit on a car...

Secondly, this is what you posted:

Nowhere there do you say that 19x8" +42 with 235/35-19"s is a .195" inboard increase over 18x7.5" +42 with 225/40-18"s..... There's no connection there.

I stated that I was unsure if a certain width and offset would fit because it might be too tucked. Knowing little about the clearances available inside the TSX's wheel wells has NOTHING to do with the argument at hand here.

You're one of the only souls in existence that thinks OPINIONS can be wrong. That's got to be one of the dumbest comments I've ever heard. An opinion can't be proved, an opinion is a stance on an issue... Opinions bring about arguments, just like they have here.

The next free chance I get I'll snap some pics of a 17x8 +42 wheel with a 225/45-17 tire on an unlowered TSX. My OPINION is that it looks like ass. Stop trying to protect your E-ego....

Again you don't know what a dropped TSX looks like. The 17x7 +55 offset is way too high when you lower the car. The wheels look out of place because they're 1in too far in. You're basing your assumption of what looks good based on the fact you think the OEMs will be right... well they're not. The easiest way to get a good idea of how a different wheel will sit is to compare it to a known quantity. In which case I'm comparing it to my 18x7.5 because its perfectly flush IMO. You're picking the wrong reference point w/ the OEM wheels.

So does this mean that every stance on an issue is the correct one? Certainly not, an opinion can lead to an argument, in which case one is proven right. You can guess what my opinion is.

I have no doubts your car will look bad, but don't tell other members what they should and shouldn't do. I stand by what I said, +42 offset will not look like ass like the blanket statement you gave. If you have more comments feel free to PM me.

Where did I tell other members what they should and shouldn't do? I stated facts about offset along with my opinions of what it'll look like on an unlowered TSX.

Ok, to put an end to all this bickering (cause I need some sleep), lets just agree that everyone that's read this thread now has a general idea of how different wheels will LOOK on lowered and unlowered TSX's.

thanks for posting the pics. :troutslap

your car looks unbelievable in real life.

anytime you are in orlando - let me know.

my +43 offset with 19 x 8 looks perfect imo. it's sits perfectly flush with the fender, as opposed to how the stock wheels sit inside the fender.

if you lower you car - anything that sticks out past the fender is gonna have serious issues with alignement.

my car is lowered ~2.25 inches - and they can barely get my wheels straight. in fact, i still have negative camber.

if they adjusted my camber anymore - then i would be rubbing all day long.

speaking of which - i rub occasionally now.

vwong, can you post a thread about what you did to your fender? you told me something about a platic piece you modified (while i was in cali)

thanks.

You're having rubbing in the front, right dzuy? Your tires are rubbing on the top clips that hold the plastic inner fender liner to the metal fender. What you need to do is remove the top 3 clips (the top most one, then one towards the front and another one towards to door). Pull the plastic fender liner out slightly. Run you finger along the inside of the metal fender. You should feel the 3 tabs that the clips orginally attached to. Now put the plastic fender liner behind these metal tabs. The tabs will hold the plastic fender liner in place. This will give you probably another 3/8" to 1/2" clearance.

I'll definiately let you know if I go to Orlando. How's your area after the hurricane? I guess Dennis missed your spot.

Thank you everyone for your help. I talked to the shop and I'm getting the 19 X 8 with the 42 offset now. I'm also lowering it on tein's (sp?) so once I get everything together I'll post some pics up. Also dzuy and vwong where did you get your kit from? I know its the factory one, I'm just looking for a good deal for it.

I got mine online at h-o-n-d-a-c-u-r-a-w-o-r-l-d.com (just take out the dashes when you enter that in your IE).

Just curious, where are you getting your rims? Oh and congrats on the new wheels. Welcome to the 19" Volk Club!!! Make sure you post some pics.

Thanks, vwong!!! I still have to wait 30 days for them to come in unfortunately. I'm getting them at Vision Autosports in Hacienda Heights. I know they do a good job because my friend got some volk 18s for his WRX and another got work 18s for his S2000. All I gotta do now is play the waiting game......

30 days ain't too bad. I waited 3 months for mine, and I believe dzuy waited even longer for his because he thinks he's special and went with a custom color. :troutslap

For the rear, you shouldn't have to. For the front, if you do experience some rubbing, it's most likely that the tire is rubbing against the top clip that holds the fender liner. If so, then just do what I posted earlier. How low are you planning to go?

Another vacation?

Let's see what I'll tell my wife about that. "Honey, I'm going to mack on all the girls with that trout guy. I'll also take your TSX too." Ahh...I don't think it'll work.

hey vwong.

my friend did what you told me to do on his jetta a couple years ago and he cut a huge gash on his tire, so be careful ok?

There is the problem....it's a VW, not Honda. Anyway, I've done the same thing in my Prelude back when I had 18" wheels and the car was slammed. I'd never cut any gash on my tire.

Best way to determine

Call the manufacturer to see. They are the only ones that will know for sure, unless you can find someone that has the wheels.
