Removing Rear Shocks Dust Covers When Installing Eibach Sportline Springs????????

Hey guys, I'm just curious, When Installing Eibach Sportline Springs on the rear, they tell you on the instructions, that you have to remove the metal cap that holds the dust cover on the shocks, but once you remove the cap, the dust cover also has to be removed, because theres nothing to hold it in place.

Can you guys please let me know if you removed yours, because what I did was modify mine to work. I cut off most of the cap, leaving only the top section that holds on the dust cover and installed them. Because I didnt want any dirt to get on the shock spleen and break the seals.
