need help with tophat screw

So short story long... i hear noises coming from my rear, guessed it was my coilovers... so next day tighten it all of them... noise is kinda gone... then all of a sudden on the freeway a nut gets loose and really loud clunks were heard x.X

i looked and seemed to have lost that one nut on top of all my coilovers... i think it was originally from my original top hat... anyone know where I can get a new nut for that??

i may add pictures later... but its dark outside x.X

I've tried a bunch of nuts from home depot but seems the ones I tried weren't big enough? (I roughly used the washer that fit pretty snug to measure... and the ones that were close to being snug I tried... but the ones that were larger than the washer I haven't tried yet...)

anyone know the nut size? or possibly part number? or anything like that?? (can't drive my car =[ or dont want to with that part missingt... kinda loud =x)

I'm trying to figure out how that nut would come loose, as it's under constant spring tension.

It actually is not under constant tension, it needs to be tight.

See, the nut tightens down on the washer and the bushings, but it must bottom out to be tight. The actual fastener system is, referencing the pic

18 nut
1 washer
4 collar
3 dust boot washer
11 dust boot
13 bump stop plate
then the damper shaft itself

the bushings are only smashed in between this mechanical fastener to isolate the damper from the hat/chassis.

So actually, the nut must tighten down on the damper and sandwich all that stuff together. If it doesn't the nut is loose and can work itself off.

Yes the spring is pushing up on the nut which is probably what you meant by the nut being under force, but as the car goes down the road that forces is variable. If the shock is only a little loose, the damper can wiggle in the bushings and the nut can come loose.

Bla-DOW!

Yes, that's what I meant. I assumed the nut was tightened correctly during the install so it shouldn't come off.

Aren't they nylock nuts and not supposed to work loose like that? I remember the Tokico shocks I got came w/ one new nut per shock for this specific application...

Your problematic nut is the one in the middle of the top hap. The others are probably not an issue. It may be difficult to get this nut tight with it in the car because the shock can just spin on you. Air tools work best.

I'm about to order lowering springs. Does anyone have the torque specs on all the required nuts and bolts for this install?

Hope you are ordering from heeltoeauto.com

The specs are not super important here, you can get all these nuts and bolts properly tightened by feel. If you are actually going to hit everything with a torque wrench, well, good for you

We have all the specs here and know the install inside and out if you need help at all with it!

Yeah...right, like I'm ordering from that whacko...I mean, of course I am. Lol, I'll make you a deal, you send me a list with the torque specs and I'll order from you (I didnt spend 50 bucks on a torque wrench not to use it!!). I'm waiting to order because someone on the other site has the RS*R's and Tokico blues for sale, BUT I don't like buying used, and I never thought about the RS*Rs...but since you said I should look into shocks/struts soon, I just want to make sure I do things right. I don't like having to do things multiple times...

I deffinitely need to order something though, to help pass the time until I get that test pipe.:tounge:
