Most comfortable coilovers

I am looking for some coilovers at the moment. I'm looking mainly for build quality and ride quality. I want it to be as close to stock as possible and also height adjustability, so springs/struts won't do. I drive an auto and don't track. Currently I'm looking at the buddy clubs, H&R, and tanabe. Buddy clubs have very stiff spring rates, but people have said they can be close to OEM ride quality. Also, they are built very well. Haven't heard much about H&R, but supposedly they're pretty soft. The tanabes are pretty comfortable according to BenderUnit, and they are also the cheapest, but I have heard not so great things about the build quality. Any second opinions/advice? Thanks.

Tein has a set of super street dampers for the TSX that don't have a pillow ball. They should be more comfortable than the type flex.

sorry for sounding like a noob, but what are pillow balls in terms of a suspension setup. I noticed the TEIN super streets are available with or without them, and wasn't sure what i would gain with them.

No problem.

A pillow ball is a type of mount. It makes the suspension more precise but also much more rigid. You don't need a pillow ball mount if you're just driving on the street.

To add to that, stock mounts are made of rubber so they flex. Pillowball mounts replace the rubber with stiff metal, no flex at all which transfer into better performance but a stiffer ride.

I should have mentioned that. Also, some people noticed extra noise from the suspension because of the pillow ball mounts.

I remember reading this Option magazine and they did a test on a few same class coilovers. HKS, Tein, Zeal, Tanabe, etc and they said best overall for street is Zeal. Then again it was tested on a EP typeR so could be differnet. I myself will get either Tanabes or Zeal once I save up enough. I've heard and seen Teins and JICs weld spots rust and break in Canadian driving conditons after a while.

Zeal is good, but a lot of dough. For that kinda money, it better be the best.

Xizor,

I have posted this before in the following thread

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10952

in short,

Thanks to the CL7/9 double wishbone design, there is no need to have a pillow mount in a double wishbone suspension as the damper does not control steering geometry unlike a MacPherson strut.

i think the springs rates on both Tein SS and basic damper are the same
the 2 set up is basically the same thing but one without stiffness adjustable ~
and i think u can only adjust it stiffer but not softer ?? rite Zee ??
if my guess is true .. then they all will be has the same comfort in the softest set up for both SS and basic damper ... and probably true on Type-Flex
but ur Type-Flex is still the best hahaha

I would also like to know whether the tein SS on the softest setting is identical to the tein basics. If so, I'd probably opt for the basics since I'd be putting the SS on the softest setting anyways. Any other differences between the SS and basics? seems like a huge price difference for only adjustability. BlackTSXer, hows the ride on the buddy clubs compared to stock? I'd love to get buddy clubs, such quality coilovers, but the spring rates scare me.
