Can you be more descriptive?

What kind of noise? When does it occur?

These three links might help you.

i think i have no idea if you have a tein basic, SS, flex, or CS setup. Assuming basic or SS.

With that assumption, and what little other help you've provided, the noise could be from the OEM hats squeaking against the frame, or squeaky springs that might need some lube, it could be squeaking where the spring hits the hat. I think thats fairly common on the Teins. I had it once on my set, hit it with some oil, and it went away.

For me its related to the sway bar cuz i get it in the back right when it cold so the lube doesnt let the bar move as freely.

so relube it and see how it is.

my tein basics have been making kind of a honking noise for.... a few months now. i've just learned to live with it. it's kind of a metal rubbing metal noise. or metal rubbing hard rubber. but it's not a grinding sound.

resurrection!

i've been noticing the last few days that i'm getting some noise in the back right. it's kind of like a rubbing/squeaky noise with my tein basics. i've had them on for about a few thousand miles now (roughly 3-4K), and never noticed it until now. probably b/c i always have music on.

today, i tried to narrow down the conditions as to when i happens. it seems like it only occurs during slower speeds when i drive locally (30mph or less) while going over small bumps and such.

at faster speeds or on level, smooth road, there is no noise.

i kept eyeing the external temp gauge on my MID also, b/c i recall reading that sometimes the noise goes away when it gets warmer. incidentally, the noise was around when the temp was under 70, then seemed to disappear on my way home from the gym when it was over 70.

it'd definately not a clunk or click like some other posters have mentioned. while annoying, i guess i can live with it. but i guess as a safety measure, i probably should have a look-see to make sure everything is ok.

Faint squeaking, that comes and goes, is probably one of two things:

Air bubbles moving in and out of the shock piston (kinda like how a squirt bottle squeaks when you are blowing air). Or it could be the shaft rubbing on the seal on shock.

Can't do much about the air bubbles. But to get rid of the squeak you can try applying some light wet silicone spray to the shock shaft where it enters the damper. I have heard more than a few people saw this was a good fix.

Clunking, clanking, rubbing, bonking, boinking, grinding, etc....anything besides a mild, quiet, intermittent squeak IS NOT NORMAL. Something got messed up in the install and it needs to be rechecked!

It could be a lot of different things. Incorrect washer order on the hat assembly, loose sway bar endlink (which can be avoided with Fsatline Powerlinks ), improper spring alignment, etc....

I feel like requesting a stick. How many times has the question of Tein noise come up? The answer is always the same. We don't know what your clunk is without pics, or even physically looking at it.

So I'm guessing this is a fairly common problem with tein basics. Does anybody know if the buddy clubs N+ has common problems as well?

Check it out, there is no PROBLEM with the Teins. It is more of an attribute. I've heard lots of shocks squeak, not just the occasion Tein observation.

The N+ is a monotube, and as such it has a different design than the SS/Basics. Same as the Monoflex, monotubes are not prone to getting air bubbles like the twin tubes are.

My Tein Basics were squeaking as well, I just applied some silicon lube as Marcus suggested and all is good now.

Thanks!

marcus, is there a general rule of thumb on how the springs "sit" with the TEIN coilovers?

well you mentioned spring alignment. I was wondering if the spring has to be in a certain position horizontally.

are you talking about left to right or top to bottom? when I jack the front end up, I am able to spin the springs freely left or right since there is no load on them. I am wondering if the springs should be facing a certain way.

The rotational orientation makes no difference whatsoever. As long as they springs are concentric in the top hats you are good.
