Good spring/shock combo

Eibach or H&R or other?

Konis or other shocks?

I need a mild lowering 1-1.5" max. Mainly daily driving but a few HPDE days per year.

Thanks.

Eibach ProKit and H&R Sport are fine. Both are quite soft, but at least they aren't soft AND ridiculously low.

Stay away from Eibach Sportline or H&R race. I doubt those will work well with stock Konis.

Koni Yellows are quite good, and you'll be hard pressed to find a better/as good shock for anywhere near the price.

Since you're only lowering the car ~1", they will work.

Why don't you just buy ground control sleeves for your Konis, if you've decided on Koni for shocks? Adjustable height...and you can buy a set of springs for street use, and a set for track use.

Maybe you can find a happy medium spring rate combo. But it will take lots of trial/error and research.

Springs are cheap. Konis only adjust for rebound damping. So...both those things put together should allow you a lot of freedom in picking spring rates.

Eibach Pros + Koni Yellows work great. Fine for daily driving and HPDE days at the track.

But...GC's are height adjustable and available in virtually any spring rate...

Never used GCs can you please shed some light on them?

Like do I buy GC sleeves with Konis and then springs separately? Do they not sell a complete set like coilovers?

GC's are threaded sleeves that slide over the shock. Its an adjustable coilover "conversion".

You buy Konis.
You buy a GC thread sleeve and spring combo *MEANT FOR KONI YELLOWS*.

Voila. coilovers.

GC's come with flat bottom springs and threaded sleeves. The springs are made by Eibach. They have standard rates that GC thinks are most advantageous for street/performance use.

You can also pick your own spring rates if you want the car to behave in a certain way or do one certain thing better.

Or buy one set of springs for track use...and another for street use.

So you get height, spring rate, and damper force adjustability.

Looky here:

Still trying to determine what specific Eibach springs are used for GC....

Also, differences between H&R and Eibach pro-kit?

I'm not sure what you mean by "what specific eibach springs". You mean the spring rate? Check ground control's website to see if they publish that...or call them up. My guess is something like 425LB/IN Front and 250LB/IN Rear. The springs that come with GC are MADE by eibach to whatever spec GC wants for the specific kit.

Differences between H&R and Eibach pro kit are drop amounts, coatings, spring rates....etc etc etc. Both companies have published lots of info. Photos will show you how they lower the car.

I really don't see a point to using lowering springs when you can use adjustable height collars and flat bottom springs (a GC kit) on the same shock.

I'm in a similar situation to OP and had been looking at installing Eibach Pro Kit Springs with Koni Yellows. Tire Rack has a special on them right now which is making it even more attractive but....

they also have a sale on ST Coilovers which I've heard good things about as well. It would be about $740 for the Eibach/Koni combo or $637 for the ST coilovers. Both of those seem like pretty good prices to me based on what I've seen in the past. Anybody have experience with the ST Coilovers or strong opinion about which would be a better fit for OPs needs and, by extension, mine?

I've had both.

The ST pretty decent as long as you keep the ride height pretty tall....close to stock. Maybe about a 1 to 1.25" drop. They're actually $780 on tire rack.

Konis also prefer a very mild drop. 1 or 1.25" is what you want.

Both will rust quickly if used in salt. The ST is zinc plated (why?!?!?!?!?!?!). The Koni has some cheesy ass paint on it.

I kinda prefer Koni as a shock (over KW).

I have to ask....If you're buying Konis...why do you want fixed lowering springs?

The tire rack price on Konis is good. I would buy them and then buy a standard ground control setup.

Or whatever, buy the pro kit if it floats your boat. People have reported noise issues with the dead/tender portion of the coils clanking together. But they have also reported solving this with rubber isolators.

Looks like its pretty complete. I like that it does not come with extended top hats, and that it comes with special bumpstops. I don't really believe that an extended tophat is a good idea unless you know what you're getting yourself into.

I strongly disagree about the 2.75" lowering aspect lol. 1 to 1.25" max. Trust me.

In the past, I have just used the stock tophat and stock bumpstop with Koni/GC setups.

That's good information. Thanks for replying. I ended up buying the Konis and PK springs. I almost sprung for the GC Kit. I had looked at these in the past and somehow didn't realize that the $499 included springs. The price seemed pretty steep to me for some machines and anodized parts if I still have to go back and source and purchase springs. That's my fault for not reading better.

If I think I want to tinker with ride height or spring rates in the future I will probably go that route unless I'm just really disappointed in the Konis. As it is, I'm usually very strapped for extra time and struggle just to get all of the maintenance and repairs done on our little fleet of vehicles. Not to mention detailing, etc.

Right on, bruv.

Gotta love how inexpensive Koni based systems are.

The ProKit and Koni Yellow combo is pretty foolproof. I'm sure you'll like it.

OP was asking about occasional track use. For that, I would rather have a system like GC that can easily accept a huge array of spring rates. I would roll around with "street" rates for comfort and then just pop in a more aggressive rate for track use.

Maybe you can find one set of springs to do everything...but that may be a tall order for a ~$1000-1500 coilover system.
