Gap confusion

Im considering purchasing some 18x7.5" or 8's and putting 235/40/18's on, since this is about as close to stock diameter as possible for 18's, am I still going to have a larger wheel gap if I choose not to lower my TSX? Will it have that 4x4 look everyone keeps refering to? I would think it would look the same as stock. Anyone care to clarify for me? thanks

the gap will still be the same, it will just be more obvious of a gap since the wheel will be taking more of the overall wheel space, there will be less tire... so your eyes will play tricks with your mind and it will appear as if your car is riding even higher because the fender wells are black, the tire is black, there will be less tire to contrast against the black which will make the fender gap even more noticeable.

I have a slightly related question...I also want to use a set of 235/40/18s when I get my wheels (18 x 7.5) because I'm looking to stay as close to stock diameter as possible. However, would a 235 tire even fit on a 7.5" wide wheel?

The 235 40's fit great. I have them on my car and I have 7.5 inch rims. When I get a chance I will take pictures of the car. I am lowering it in a week so the stance will look a lot better.

It fits, many people do it. Some tire shops will not try to fit 235 series tires on 7.5" wide wheels because sometimes (depending on the tire manufacturer) the beads of the tires are more difficult to mount than a 225 series tire.

Please take pics.

Besides the OEM diameter, I'd be looking to protect my wheels as best as possible (goddamn New England potholes), so I'm thinking 235/40/18 tires are the way to go. Is it difficult to find quality tires in this size?

Also, what kind of weight increase should I expect from a 235 vs. 225 tire?
