front anti-sway bar

Can anyone speak to the benefit of upgrading the front anti-sway bar? I know that a lot of people upgrade the rear bar, but that modification knocks you out of stock class in Sports Car Club of America Solo II.

Will upgrading the front bar alone improve handling? Or will it make the car plow too much?

It would cause it to understeer more. You'd need an even stiffer rear bar or other modifications to the rear suspension to compensate. Also, are you saying that you can install a front bar and not affect your SCCA classification?

in Stock classes, you can upgrade the front swaybar ONLY, not the rear.

Camden, unfortunately the only way for you to stay in Stock class and to make the car rotate better in the tight turns in auto-x'es is to disconnect the front swaybar. That's not ideal IMO, but that's the only way for a FWD car in Stock classes. Unless you upgrade your shocks and have them valved such that the rear ones are stiffer than the front ones. Otherwise, nothing much you can do.

Oh yeah...like Dan said, upgrading the front swaybar will actually induce more understeer.

If you do that, just don't win all the time (at least Nationally). Otherwise, people will start paying attention to you and your car, and start looking for everything that looks suspicious. The Comptech bar is quite big, you know.

Just an example, at the Atwater National Tour several weeks ago, one of my local competitors got protested for a pair of front LCAs in his WRX. This shows that National competitors do look everything.

to put one on is more trouble that its worth, you need to disconnect the front subframe

re:

So it sounds like a front anti-sway bar upgrade is a bad idea, then.
