Falken Ziex ZE-912 ??

Hi,

I live in Seattle am replacing the stock(crap) Michelins on my 05 nav/auto TSX.
Have stock 17" rims.

I need a recommendation for the Falken Ziex ZE-912. Getting these for $77 per pice on discounttiredirect.com and shipping free.
Looks like these are pretty decent all seasons and have great reviews about handling and grip, and a lot more quiter as well.

The only con mentioned is these are not good in the snow.

Seattle has some amount of snow in the winters, so I am just thinking...

Need help.

Also, can I go for 225/50 R17 tires instead of the stock 215/50/ R17??
I dont want to go for 225/45 R17.

Need help please...

PS: I have stretched the stock Michelins to 59k miles(can u believe it??). They are pretty much bald now

I just went from the Yokohama V4S to the Yokohama YK520 a couple days ago...while I was hesitant to change from the V4S, I am actually very happy with them. They are quiet, track very well, handle decently, and they have a 60,000 mile warranty. I've had two sets of Falkens on my previous car & will never buy them again...I don't think they wear the best nor do they offer the best traction....

I read some reviews that the 520's are decent in the snow, but you might want to check on that....

By the way...isn't it funny that certain retailers out there are trying to sell the OEM tires for like $200-250 per tire!!!....Sad....

I am installing the same Falkens on my 05 tsx tomorrow. I know that doesn't help you, but, I'll gladly report back on initial impressions tomorrow evening. We get unpredictable amounts of snow in NJ, so, I'll just work from home if it is unsafe to drive. No one should be on the road in the first place if snow is accumulating. IMHO

If the 912s are *anything* like the 512s that they replace, they'll be terrible in the snow. I ran the 512 as my 3 season tire for about 2 years, but used dedicated snow tires for the winter.

Just to add... I was excited when I heard they were coming out with an "update" since I was looking to replace my set of 512s. What made the 512s so popular was that they provided very competent performance at an extremely reasonable price. After reading the specs on the 912s, I decided to go with General Exclaims. The thing that really turned me off was the significant increase in weight of each tire, as well as the added "beef" around the shoulders. The 512s were a very light UHP tire, and had a tapered sidewall with a rim protector, which also made it better looking.

Personally, if you're looking for an all-season performance tire that's priced in the same range, I'd probably go with Kumho ASXs before the new 912s. I found those to be much better in the snow. The Falkens will probably ride a little bit softer, however, if you prioritize ride compliance over performance...

Just curious to see if there is any update or new opinions on this tire?

I hope to sell my 2004 TSX @ some point soon so I did not want to spend a lot on new tires (need all 4) & I drive like a regular commuter so performance is not an issue. Discount Tire had this & Kumho Solus KH16 for a $5 difference. The Kumhos are supposed to get 60,000 miles compared to the Falken's 40,000 miles ... but everytime I see that name I think that it is pronounced as "c*m h*" & that just sounds like some kind of porn tire so I am going w/ the Falkens.

Appointment is on Saturday so if any one has any info before then, I would greatly appreciate it!

They are absolute garbage in the winter, and horrible in the rain, I couldn't wait to get them off my car. Get a set of winters and a set of summers, then you will enjoy all the seasons that much more.

As evidenced partly by the age of this thread, the Falken 912's are an old design and represent dated tire technology. I'm surprised they're still around actually. That said, about 7 or so years ago (maybe even more), they were rated tops by Consumer Reports in a performance all season tire test. On that basis, I had a couple of sets on different cars and remember being fairly happy with them. I've always used winter tires, so I can't speak for (or against) their usefulness (or lack there of) in the snow. They were on all wheel drive cars (Audi's), so though I don't remember having any trouble with them in the rain (and I'm pretty sure I would as I tend to drive pretty fast in the rain and a tire's ability to perform in wet weather is at the top of my "must have" list when choosing a tire), the all wheel drive may have masked any deficiency. Someone else's experience could certainly have been different. The only negative I do remember is that they're pretty loud.

My car came with these, they are actually great for a the first year, but I put 30k on them and they are done (2/32 tread). The begin to hydro pretty bad so they are not the most reassuring tire, and they get louder as previously mentioned.
