Brakes Brakes Brakes......need Help
 

Here is my dillemma, anytime im at a high speed and step on the brakes espescially if its a lil harder than usuall the steering wheel shakes and vibrates, I'm pretty sure my rotors are warped so, I think I might as well should change my rotors, brake pads, and maybe brake lines. I have done a search but most threads just turn into bashing other people and companies, what i wanted to know was what braking system maybe best or what setup. I was preferrebly looking for slotted rotors, hawks brake pads, and ss lines. I have never really messed with brakes on any of my past cars so im not as well knowledged on this. Any tips pointers help. Also i'm not sure what companies and models to buy for the rotors, pads, or lines except for tirerack.com, I was trying to find if there were any other companies that maybe available for me to shop around, and as i mentioned before i want to know what companies and models i should go for.

I too had the same issue you are having with warped rotors after about 40k on my 05 TSX. I just replaced them yesterday with Racingbrake slotted rotors with Racingbrake pads. I didn't do the brake lines though. I thought I might as well just bleed the brakes to get some new fluid in the lines. I have to say what a difference these new rotors and pads make. I've only had them for a day, but my general impression is that they're well worth it. I still find myself braking earlier because how my old brakes reacted. :chuckle:

You can do a search for either Racingbrake or Rotora to get reviews from members here who have their respective rotors. I got my Racingbrake rotors from MrHeeltoe in the Sponsored Sales section of the site under Off Topic and I know you can get Rotora rotors through Josh a.k.a. Excelerate under the same section. Both are great vendors who have helped out our Acurazine community tremendously.

I got rconcept rotors and Axxis ULT pads off of the seller r1concept on ebay. I bought goodridge brakelines from tirerack. I got good reviews for all of these parts based on a couple on research here and some google searches. R1concept is used in many other applications, so I expanded my research. The rconcept rotors are a really good deal.

I think my total cost was ~365 for my parts. I paid 180 for installation, so my total cost was $545, which was less than what a couple of dealers were quoting me for brake service (new pads, resurface rotors).

i can't say enough about my setup. After really bedding them in (10 stops from 60-10, 2 times), these things have performed flawlessly. I get a squeal once in a while, but I gladly give that up for the performance. It even surprised me that the rain performance was as good as it was. No vibrations, no pulling, great pedal feel, great stopping.

Just like Johnny said, people have had great success with the vendors setups on this board. Heeltoe and Excelerate have their own setups (racingbrake and rotora, respectively, I think), so I'm sure if you search, you'd find their setups mentioned alot.

Additionally, I think a couple of people have SS lines, brembo blanks, and hawk hps pads. I think moda_way has 'em. It seems they are a good way to go too.

I just did all by rotors and pads. Went with Brembo replacement rotors and Hawks ceramic pads; purchased from the tirerack. Much better than OEM. Try Marcus (Mr. Heeltoe), for another opinion on brakes, pads, and lines. They have Racingbrake slotted rotors with Hawk pads - http://www.heeltoeauto.com/Heeltoe-B...-pr-40003.html

I think everyone with a TSX has had your problem....

I went with Racingbrake UP Rotors, Racingbreak ET500 pads and RB SS lines. Stopping is incredible. Night and day difference. I highly recommend Racingbreak.

I have about 24k miles right now, how bad are the squeals you guys hear?

+1 on the RacingBrake rotors (in front; I wouldn't bother with the rears)

I also have Hawk HPS pads and Goodridge SS lines. You're definitely going to get a lot more brake dust, but nothing extreme. I think this is a great setup, and I've never had any noise issues (I have about 18,000 miles on them).

ROTORA offers a great OE replacement slotted or drilled/slotted rotor. Combined with a good pad like the ROTORA Ceramics or a Hawk pad you will notice improved braking.

Considering that the TSX rear brake pads wear faster than the fronts, does this mean they are working harder? and if so, I wonder if it would be better to make that switch on the rears only if you're only going to do one axle.

Just food for thought.

Did the exact same thing. And guess what, after 40K (25k miles) the vibration when stopping at high speeds is back. :whyme:

Man, I'm really liking the no vibration at hwy speeds now with the new set up, but I'll keep that in mind when I get ~25K on mine.

how much will the rotora slotted rotors cost and also how much does the hawk pads cost?

Keep in mind I would not like to have squeals from my brakes or if they may come i would like them to be minimum.

I bought brembo slotted and drilled blanks on ebay, Hawk HPS pads on tirerack.

A year later, the same thing for the rear and then SS brake lines for all four corners on ebay for 58 bucks.

Say what you want but this stuff on ebay isn't half bad.

If you have the slots, the holes are more for aesthetics. The slots are already doing the job needed; however having both isn't going to hurt anything. The drilled/slotted rotors just cost a little more.

just wanted to bump this.. i bought the ASP Akebono's for the front on my '16 TLX SH AWD and they fit perfect but the ASP Akebono's are too thick for the back?? they are the ASP1698 model that are said to fit our TLX's, anyone have these installed?
wondering if i should try another shop?

Question: Since you are capable of replacing brake pads, why didn't you take care of B1 yourself? I personally don't like anyone to touch my car unless it is for something I can't do myself
