Question 20s on a tsx

last wk i posted a msg about getting 20 inch rims on my 2004 tsx. and a couple of people said it would end up looking like a 4x4 - not the case, check out this link:

link = http://www.cardomain.com/ride/575524

i think it looks perfectly fine and everyone has their own taste.
my main concern was whether the rims would rub and whether they would stick out ("like a 4x4") or would it be flush with the wheel-well.
the specs are:

20 x 7.5 rims, bolt pattern = 5 x 114.3, offset = 38
225-35-20 tires (are these low-profile?)

everything else is stock, i don't plan on lowering the car or changing the springs or anything like that - just some plain 'old dubs - to keep it simple

please don't tell me your opinions on the style or how you think it would look.
i just need your unbiased help on whether you think it would fit properly without rubbing and without sticking outside of the wheelwell. thanks a lot

1) the car in that link is lowered, your car will not look the same unless you lower it as well

2) those wheels 20x7.5 +38 w/ a 225/35/20 will not stick out of the fender (much), it should be pretty flush, or just barely pushing it

3) those tires are so low-profile, I'd expect you to bend a wheel on the first pothole you hit

yea, those pics are lowered. Trust me... if you get aftermarket rims without lowering the TSX, it wont look right. It'll look raised for some reason. Also... 20 inch wheels on a TSX are a bit... meh... your car will ride really harsh, and your gas mileage, acceleration, and braking will all suffer as well. I personally am not a huge fan of 20's. I think the 18's look perfect, 19's are pushing it on the TSX.

If you noticed rockd TSX pics on carsdomain he lowered his ride with Eibach Pro-kit
you need to lower the car if you plan on getting 20's otherwise it'll look like crap.
I myself am planning to get 19's i know you can get 20's on TSX but it looks a little bit weird to me with that big rims. 19" just seems right to me. l am also going to go with the Tein Flex with the 19's Volks i'm planning to get.

What can cause a TSX to look 4x4 anyways? In an earlier thread of mine, I had bought new 17 inch rims. Someone had commented that my TSX looked 4x4. They said I should have gone with 18's also. I commented that my car was lowered just a little bit due to it having the A-Spec suspension. Their comment to this was that if that's the case, it's the worst drop they had ever seen. I would think having bigger wheels on a non lowered TSX would be what could make a TSX look 4x4. But since I kept my wheels at 17's and I have the A-Spec suspension, I dunno what the hell to think.

It mostly has to do with the wheel gap. When you put lager rims on a car, you usually purchase lower profile tires along with them. That combo give the car a raised look, which is generally not acceptable.

The A-spec suspension is barely a drop, I think about .5"'s all the way around. Its just not enough to make any siginifant change in look. Had you searched here before you bought, you would have found this info easily.

C'mon man... in the very 1st sentence on the Car Domain page, he states that he dropped his TSX on Eibach Prokits, so he's already ~1.5" lower. I won't comment on whether I think 20's will look right because if that's what you like, that's all that matters... I will however tell you that a +38mm offset and 7.5" rim will stick out a little bit past your fender, and a 225-35-20 tire is greater than a 2% difference which means it's a plus size "mismatch". Your speedometer will be off a good deal, and considering how thin your sidewall is, I'd imagine you're in for a rougher ride too...

Good luck with whatever you choose...

thanks for your help man. do you think i should go with a higher offset then? what do you think would be an ideal offset if everything else stays the same in order for the wheels to be flush with the fender? 42 or something?

at least a 45 offset imo.....and also...i think everyone was giving their opinion of how it would look for your sake...just so you dont get the rims thinking it would look one way and when you put them on it would look different from how you thought it would look...some people think that if they put a bigger rim it will fill all the gap in the wheel well and some of us know that is not the case, in fact the complete opposite happens.......i think thats all everyone was trying to do....just my
