Exclamation '05 TSX on 215/55/17 ?

Hi guys ,

I just bought 4 like new tires (really they look like they have 95% tread still on them from a friend who's car was totaled after a month ). 2 are Bridgestone Turanza EL-400 215/55/17 93V rated and the other two are Firestone FR 710 93S rated.

I know the OEM requires 215/50/17 V rated , so wanted to know this was okay and safe by putting two of the same on the front and two of the same on the back? And what are the possible drawbacks? Please let me know. Thanks.

I wonder if maybe you should asked your questions before you bought the tires? In no particular order (and all just my opinion):

Safe? Umm . . . yeah, especially if you don't do too much highway driving. I'll assume the tire models are both all season. The new tire sets are the same size, but carry different speed ratings. This means (among other things) that the tire materials and construction are a little different. You may feel the effects of this, particularly at speed (hence the highway driving qualifier). You'll get used to it.

The tires are a higher profile, so they're taller (larger diameter) than the OE size. This will be noticeable visually, and in how the car may handle (exacerbated by the different tire construction). The upside is they're all the same size, so the taller tires will have no effect on the on board electronic and hydraulic safety systems. And, again, I assume you'd get used to it.

Other things? Maybe, but someone else can comment. This is not a great set up, if for no other reason than it will, to some degree, compromise some of what makes the TSX a joy to drive. All I can add is that I hope you got them really cheap.
