I feel like someone punched me in the stomache. I WAS BEATEN BY A 4-RUNNER! Not a V8, a V6! 2006 model! I know a TSX is not a sports car, but C'MON MAN! DAMN!
Ok, I just had to get that off of my chest. I needed an outlet...

A kid at my school has an 04 4runner and when he puts the car in first and floors it up to the redline its diffenently pretty fast which he does everytime he drives. Of course now im sure his tranny is as reliable as a 2g TL.

Sorry, sometimes I feel we just have to realize we're driving a show horse, not a thoroughbred.

Close friend of mine has a 4-runner V6 Sport. Those things are quick off the line, but different story during highway speeds.
My buddy is getting ~18mpg; and spending $400/month on gas. I'm getting ~30mpg; and spending about $200/month. You gotta love a Honda 4-banger when it comes to gas.

I have an '04 5AT TSX and an '04 V8 4Runner. Every once in a while my wife and I will be driving home at the same time and we take an opportunity to "race" each other. 0 - 60. No matter which one I'm driving, the 4Runner wins. TSX has a Comptech Icebox and I use SS. 4Runner is stock.

I don't know how many here have experience driving on CA Highway 5 between Nor Cal and Los Angeles....but there are a lot of SUV's making the long trip.
I would honestly say that out of every ten SUVS/Trucks you try to pass, eight will try to accelerate and prevent you from going around. It's totally odd behavior. I've never even driven an SUV in my 10+ years on the road so I don't understand the mentality behind not wanting to let someone pass, but it's very common on highway 5 with large SUV's.
At any rate, I could demolish them during road trips with my Mazda3 when they tried to pull that shit, and the TSX accelerates a good bit faster at highway speeds than my Mazda3 did. So I guess my end conclusion is that you don't need to worry about SUV's messing with you at highway speeds. I haven't taken a road trip in the TSX yet, but I got my high performance ZR rated tires and my A-spec is being installed this week. It should feel firm and safe at 85-90mph cruising controlling the 5 to visit friends and family in SoCal. I can't wait.

i live in jersey, was in CA when i was like 3 lol... but yea trucks are very quick, like ford f250's, dodge 2500/3500, one of them started off the line and i tried to keep up... couldnt even stay close to him... but like you said and i mentioned, at highway speeds, we can almost eat up any truck, my top speed was 122, when iwas at 95, it still had plenty of power to climb to 110, then slowed down and took a little to get to 120+, but wheni was going 122, i was at around 5700/5800 rmp, we redline at 7100 so we have plenty of juice

I think part of it comes from the mentality of "I drive a BIG BAD SUV/Truck -- therefore I am safe" encouraging the wrong behavior. Many of them here, especially Tahoes, Suburbans, and Yukons drive like they have an Indy car or something where they cut across lanes, go over 80 mph, and worst of all: TAILGATE. Many of them aren't aware of the horrible braking and handling when trying to avoid a collision. To make matters worse , they absolutely demolish the other car during an accident possibly killing them while the SUV driver walks away without a scratch.
I noticed the other day while coming home from work that a big Lincoln Navigator was so close to my TSX, I thought the driver was sitting in my rear view seat. He kept making pointless lane changes while tailgating others. When it was time to merge onto the freeway, I decided to put him in his place by passing him in one of the merging lanes. Unfortunately for me, we hit a steep incline that negated any power-to-weight advantage I had over his V8. Needless to say, he didn't let me pass. That was the first time I couldn't pass a big SUV.

The funniest challenge I ever had was at an onramp going north on the 55 Freeway from Irvine Blvd. when the carpool lights were on. An older guy wanted to show me what his Ford Freestar minivan had as he chirped the tires to get up to speed. I was surprised to hear the tire chirp along with some kind of rattling noise from his engine. Needless to say, I used a little VTEC from first gear and contest was over soon after it started. Mine does not have any engine mods, but I don't think any minivan from any company is going to challenge a TSX in acceleration especially not a Freestar.
Speaking of strong acceleration. My previous experience with a Honda product was a 1984 Prelude. That engine was rated at 103 horsepower, but I could get those tires to chirp in second gear on a stock engine! If I had to guess, actual horsepower must have been closer to 150, although I'm sure the lighter weight of the car kept things moving more swiftly than usual. I never had any issues merging into freeway traffic with that car. I think my TSX would still take the Prelude from 0-60 but it would be closer than you might think. The Prelude was no match for the TSX at highways speeds though.

then again every driver has different mentality on driving... why cant we all drive in peace ?

You will get back to the immaturity state when you got pwned by a truck/mini-van that you thought you could take him easily. But yes, it's funny how the horsepower/acceleration of nowadays car keeps going higher/faster, yet the speed limit (set from the 50s) stayed the same. There has been a BIG complaint in Toronto 2 or 3 years ago, and it was on the Newspaper Auto section everyweek, but no one bothers (from gov).

Some of the trucks are quite fast, but if anything, these big-engine trucks are a sign of immaturity. Imagine if you had one of these and then got beaten by, say, a station wagon.....
As far as speed limits, I can remember traveling with my parents on highways going 75mph! That was around 1971 or so. These days, I don't think I've seen any more than 70mph, but at least 70 is common in between cities on the interstates. For a long period of time, they cut the speed limit to 55, for gas conservation, and that was really annoying. They eventually started raising the limits, but I think it was a bit of a gradual increase; I don't recall the 70 limit until later.
IMO, I think most of the speed limits I deal with are reasonable. In this city, neighborhoods are 30 (which is sometimes too high!), the more major roads are 45 (where there is a lot of traffic turning in and out of businesses), and rural roads are 55, interstates 65 in-city, and 70 in more rural stretches. Considering that you've got a mix of drivers, I think these are speeds that most people can handle. You get a couple of people doing 20 mph over (or under!), and bad things can happen. The fact that the cars can go faster doesn't matter.
