04 IS 300 vs 04 TSX

There is this guy I work with that has been talking trash to me for quite some time about his Lexus. He's always telling me that he wants to race me and his car will smoke mine. Well the only performance modafications I have on my car is Magnaflow mufflers. He has an intake and an aftermarket muffler. So anyway we just happen to be at the light. I didn't want to race him but sinced his girl was with him I thought I should try to embarass him. Well the light's green and we take off. I didn't think that I had car had much pull but I was almost on car length in front of him. After I hit 50 mph I quit and he got owned. He said that he shifted wrong. In a real race do you think that an IS300 could own a TSX?

BTW I don't do this on a regular.

Driver's race. The IS300 in stock form was never that quick of a car. Pretty on par with the TSX in most real-world performance and handling numbers and certainly close enough that one missed shift or a single slow shift would mean the difference in a race.

my aunt has an is300 which, of course, my cousin drives from time to time. my stock auto vs. his stock auto = tsx loss (not by much, however, when in sport shift). my modified auto vs. his stock auto = lexus bites the dust

The IS300 with any sort of forced induction, however, will destroy a TSX.

(Note: I miss my IS300)

I am surprised that the tsx is close to or even beating the is300 in these claimed races.

On paper the is300 has more power, significantly more torque and weighs less. Who knew it would be a 15.9 second battle to the finish!

I was getting info from msnautos.com and it states the is300 to be 2lbs lighter. Either way I think its safe to say that the weight can be negligable in this case. Still doesnt add up for the extra hp/tq though.

Edit: forgot that its an 04 tsx here. You're right the 04 tsx is lighter (25lbs) than the is300.

^^ I know, I was about to say the same thing. Its a good movie.

Back on topic, I think 6MT TSX can beat the IS, as a matter of fact, ,my friend in his 06 6MT with just an CAI Intake beat a IS250 from a rolling start.

our TSX's may not be that quick, but they can keep on par with a lot of cars out there right now

Buddy of mine has the 2004 is300 sport edition, we've raced a couple of time and he beats me by half a car usually. Mines a 06 AT. Rode in it and it pulls pretty damn good compared to mine

As a family, our cars include a 2005 TSX and a 2003 is300 both automatics, among other cars. In real world spirited driving, I would much rather drive a stock is300 than a stock TSX; I only have first hand experience with the automatics. My Artic Blue TSX has been modified as follows; Black Motegi Racing MR118 18x8s with 225/45r18 tires. Eibach Prokit springs (lowering f 1.6", r 1.4") with KYB struts. The car was too quiet so on went a Skunk2 cat-back dual exhaust system. Since the mods, I prefer the TSX while driving it exclusively in sport shift mode. Of course mods produce apples to oranges comparisons. The fact is, a 2jz driving rear wheels is automotive magic. If I mod the is300 my opinion would probably shift again. Bottom line, enjoy the hobby, enjoy the journey!

Damn. This thread died in Nov of 2008 and resurrected in April 2014. I'm sure OP doesn't give a hoot anymore. Haha.
