Um, I have a iPod charger hooked up to the outlet in the center console if that's what you mean. Thanks for the advice buts it really nothing major. It only happens when its gotten turned up REALLY loud on the ipod and car and the iPod isn't actually playing. I usually have the ipod or XM going almost all the time so it has only happened once in a blue moon, but thanks for the advice. |
Try it without the power source plugged into either the iPod or the power outlet. Could be a number of inductive things. (I'm not a car hifi expert, just a former avionics tech.)

 I tried to recreate the whining sound when I ran out earlier, and it couldn't get it to work at all. :/ Not that I really want it back, haha....it makes me feel like a noob though when I can't get it to happen again. |
SUCCESS!
New Tranny In. Noise Gone! Also got them to fix my rattling front doors using the february 2008 TSB Like a brand new car =D |
I'm out of warranty so not new tranny for me...
My friend actually think I add a supercharger when he hear the sound. |

I'd only got it between 40 and 60 mph and only if I lightly touched the gas. If I gassed more heavily, the whine would be drowned out by the engine noise. At 40 the whine is low pitched and at 60 it's higher and probably exits the audible range beyond that. The whine sounded like it was coming from underneath me / dash area. |
MT or AT?

Muncher you got smithtown acura to replace the tranny? did they say anything else about this? I have the same issue but i thought it was online minor.
I wonder if something is really wrong. When i'm back home i might have to check it out. |
No one, including the mechanics, actually knew what was going on because they can't open up the tranny. All they knew was that they heard a sound coming from the tranny that sounded to them like "something bouncing around." They tried replacing a bunch of cheaper parts to no avail and finally decided to give me a new tranny.
When I bought the car (with 20k on it) the whine was already there and the guys at Rallye did say they've seen this with 04's and 05's quite a bit and it was nothing to worry about. I haven't noticed any difference in driveability with the new tranny so I don't know how serious it is... and there haven't really been any horror stories about the tranny breaking down from the guys who have more miles on their car so I'm not sure how much of a 'real' issue this is. Either way, I was extremely irritated by the noise and am really glad it's finally gone. Also, if you decide to go, you gotta bring this issue to the head service guy Ray. he is very knowledgeable and didn't give me the run around at all. try to avoid this dude named Kenny... he constantly bitched about how much time it was taking to do this for me etc etc. Btw, how long have you had this whine? since day one? |
yea haha had the whine first day happens around 40-50mph around 5th gear. So i thought it was normal, but maybe not? no other signs of tranny issues though.
|
supposedly it's a final drive issue, so if you sport shifted down to 3rd you should still hear it as long as the engine noise doesn't drown it out.
|
so its not happening on mt at all?
|
My '05 AT has been making this noise as well. It is exactly the same as what muncher described. I guess I had gotten used to it, but when my sister's fiance was in the car the other day, he pointed it out and now I really notice it.
I've posted in two other threads today about other problems (one about the car making noises when making sharp turns at low speeds, and the other on the car not downshifting (my terminology) while going downhill. I read the thread that was linked above where someone had the problem solved by replacing a gasket. Has anyone else had any luck fixing the problem using that solution or another? Thanks! |

I have 05 with AT, and I never had a whine, it was whisper quiet. But at 18,000 miles it started making agravating noise when I was going over 50 mph every time I had my foot on the gas pedal. Take my foot off the pedal the whine was gone. This drove me crazy, I only have 21,000 miles on this tsx, all hi-way driving and its out of warranty. LOve this car but could not take the whine. Traded in for a new 09 honda accord Ex-L with Nav. color polished metal metallic and grey leather. Got 19k for my car and they put in honda remote system and winter mats for no charge, remote is 504$ option and the mats 140$. I bought my acura from the same dealer and previous hondas. They sale both hondas and acuras. That took care of my whine.
