Went in for service (Rotor question)
I have ~4300 miles on my car and I took it in today (Palm Beach Acura) for an oil change, but also for the trunk fix and the virbration coming from the passenger side speaker. They were really friendly and their service is set up really nice..so that left me with a good first impression. They fixed everything great and it was all free (except $29 for oil change), but after I got the car back I noticed a scratch on my driver's side door so I asked for someone to come look at it. They come over and spray this stuff on it which removes paint from another car because that's what he thought it was, white paint, but it turned out it was a scratch in the paint and all he said was "oh i'm sorry" and i was like "oh, uhm well ok, thanks for trying" and that was it. It is a really small scratch but it still depresses me since it's the first scratch on my car. I have no dings, dents scratches whatsoever...well except that one now.
So anwyways, after that I am driving home and the speakers sound great and I'm on the highway and I have to stop quickly, so i hit my brakes and my car vibrates a little and hesitates...I think I jinxed myself when I read about the warped rotors issue a few days ago because they are definitly warped. I don't know if I just never noticed it, or what, but it sucks because I live about 45 minutes from the Acura dealer and I don't feel like bringing it in again just so they can scratch up my car some more.
So the question is for people who have had warped rotors....do they give you new rotors? or just resurface them? and to those who have had them replaced/resurfaced, did this fix the issue, or will they just warp again after another 5-10k miles?? is it worth it just to get some aftermarket rotors if that is the case?

no, it wasn't as severe as the ABS and after i noticed it once I felt it the whole way home whenever I had to brake hard (well basically everytime i did more than tap my brakes)

Warped rotor at 4300mi? I don't know about that. As a quick check - rotate your tires and see if that does anything. If this is a typical Acura joint they'll look at you and see some car abusing kid and charge you for new rotors.

and i don't use my brakes a lot...hell i've had my car for almost a year now and i only have 4300 miles on it -- and that's only because my boyfriend and i drove it down from connecticut to florida (which was about 1800 miles) so it's not like i abuse my car...my commute to school is 4 miles and i only go on Monday, Wednesday, Friday...and i'm not an agressive driver.

There's no recall AFAIK. I believe someone said that there's an internal bulletin that says if a customer compains a lot, they'll just replace them.
Kurt Bradley could probably get us some inside info to confirm or deny this.

oh, maybe i found it on another forum then, but i did find what you are saying in a prior thread here:
would just getting aftermarket rotors void any part of my warranty?
Found out today that 04 TSX rotors are not on a recall but most acura servive centers have been notified to replace anyone with complaints about their brakes. Their is a memo up about it. No recall Yet but warrenty will cover the job. Mine are being done May 3rd. Atleast around my area (NJ) the memo has been posted and service centers.

i dunno, the hassle of getting them resurfaced, just to have them resurfaced again and again isn't bad compared to them voiding parts of my warranty...especially since every 15k miles is like 3 years for me.

I'm on my 3rd set of rotors and yes they warp after 10K or less. I had the current set installed at 50,000km's and they're now warped again at 60,000km though only slightly. Both sets were covered under warranty.

I put 75,000km's on my Civic without even changing a pad. This is the first car I've ever had where the brakes vibrated so violently braking from higher speeds.
And judging by the ease at which I had them replaced under warranty, (No questions at all from the service reps, just "sure we'll change em") Acura knows something is wrong with TSX rotors.

I'm starting to wonder if its something in the design of the vehicle or something broken thats causing this? It surely can't be the rotors anymore?
After I asked them what to do if this keeps happening, the service rep even went so far as to say that they would simply keep on replacing them for me under warranty if the problems keeps occuring.

Ya, that's not a very satisfying answer domn. I could care less what happens with the car while it's under warranty, just so long as they fix it before the warranty is up.
Is it all your rotors or just the fronts that needed to be replaced?

Just the fronts.
From what I understood, they would continue changing them even after warranty was up as long as its within a reasonable time frame. 20K is IMO unreasonable to have to replace rotors.

I don't think its a widespread issue even with the TSX. And I'm sure that the 05's will be fine.
My car has had a few problems that noone else has experiened or only a very few. I again chalk it upto buying first year.
Which reminds me, I fixed a rattle I had two nights ago, all by myself
I had this annoying rattle somewhere in the car since it got cold. I could never really determine where is was coming from though and it wasn't happening all the time either. So I finally decide to tackle the problem and start feeling around. I find that its coming from the dash, the area just above the gauges in between the clock and the hump above the gauges. Everytie I pressed in that area the rattle stopped.
So i just banged the crap out it with a closed fist a few times and rattle gone I gues the banging moved the plastic around enough to stop it from jumping.
Sometimes a good punch it all it takes.

It's so satisfying to fix something like a rattle that's been driving you crazy for a long time.
That's going in my signature.

my rotors are probally horribly warped. At low speeds i heard rubbing from the rotors and god knows what else. High speed braking, vibrates horribly. Should i replace them with aftermarket, or should i pay acura to fix them?

IF the dealer has rotated your tires before that may be the culprit. Dealers often use impact wrenches to secure lugs instead of using a torque wrench like they are supposed to. The impact wrenches lock the lugs all the way up to 400lbs of torque. Even if there's a torque limiter on there, there's no way that they can get an even distribution of torque on all of the lugs like you can if you hand tighten them.
I would recommend in the future if the dealer touches your lugs, when you get home use a torque wrench and retorque all of the lugs to 85lbs.

What will make a difference is the impact wrench at 400lbs/ft
That's 5 times what the torque should be.

It's the rotors, although I am very surprised that it happened under 5000 miles...dealer will turn the rotors at no cost ...something about courtesy service or something like that..I had mine done around 15K...also I had my radio and climate control lights go out..so when they replaced my radio/climate control unit..the mechanic scratched up the dash along the wood grain panel...I complained..they fixed the nicks but didn't fix the scratch on the simulated wood grain..a little nick on the corner...to replace the entire unit it would have cost the dealer $1400... they offered me a major service instead so I took it...so I will get my 30k or 40k major service for free..so go back and complain...
