Unattractive coin compartment: "this is not an ashtray"

Does anybody else think the red coin compartmant is very raw looking? Is there anyway to take it out or peel the label off?

I thought of taking it out and painting it black so that it wouldn't be so obvious, but after attempting to remove the console to get to it a few times without success, I've simply resigned myself to leaving it alone...

I am planning to ask the dealer to remove the red "velvet" when I bring it in for its 10k oil change.

well, if you remove the red velvet, all you will have is a hole... they way they put that on there, its not really removable.

If you can get him to find it or order it, the JDM or euro version has an ashtray with a light there. I have already checked acuraautomotiveparts.org and they only carry the red velvet 'not an ashtray'.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe we could put some black dye of some kind in there?

That is the biggest flaw in the entire interior.
I don't smoke but an ashtray at least would be better and not
scream the obvious "Not an ashtray" in bright racing red.
This was not one of there better ideas! Doh!

I'm not going to try this because it doesn't bother me enough and if it were black in there maybe it would be harder to see stuff against the felt but just a suggestion:

Take a black indelible marker and colour the red felt black.

If you are game enough to try it let me know if it works.

They should have made it a blue felt to go with the blue lighting theme throughout the car.

In order for it to look right, you really should remove it and spray it with some black paint... the problem is getting the console apart...

Because the red is like a felt, paint might not be the best idea. Try some SEM vinyl dye

Stuff looks like it would work. However I obviously don't want to spray it inside the car. Since you've taken that area apart already does it look like the cubby hole can come out easy?

To get that cubby hole out, you first must remove the upper storage area and the top of the center console. It is then only held in by 4 screws.

If you don't have the service manual, check out the handsfree phone kit installation instructions on this page: http://instantox.com/tsx/

I located the remote display for my Valentine-1 in the cubbyhole. The fuzzy red thing does snap out, but I had the entire assembly on my workbench and it still took some work. I'd worry about breaking the console otherwise. Underneath it's just black plastic with a bunch of slots and holes.

https://hondacuraworld.hostasaurus.c...tructions/tsx/

The instructions for installing the "Cassette Media Player Attachment" show you how to take the console apart. I wouldn't have bothered had I not had everything apart for the cassette player and the V-1 remote. It's not as simple as just a couple of screws.

Amazing that they don't offer an optional "smoker's group" with an ashtray like for other Hondas in the US! (Or maybe they expect the smokers to buy BMWs!)
