TSX Idle Varies

Hey guys my 2004 TSX has 64k on it and it has recently started to have an idle problem. Before anyone says it please don't say it is supposed to vary I know that but it shouldn't be doing it like this. It will drop for an instant and then come back. Doing it over and over again. This problem is intermittent and the car runs smooth on the highway. Yesterday it stalled backing out of the driveway. Anyone got suggestions. I am going to replace the spark plugs today. Oh yeah one other thing the dealer is 3 hours away way too far just to run it by for a check up.

My old Legend had the same problem and it turned out be the crank position sensor. I've also heard that the O2 sensors can cause this on newer cars. Any codes being thrown?

The legend had an idle adjustment screw. It was located on the front of the throttle body. All you have to do is adjust it slightly and the engine should smooth out.

I would put a very high probability that the O2 sensors are to blame. You may want to get them checked out.

Happen only when cold? Or all the time? Anecdotally, I had a bizarre problem with an 82 Accord, barely ran when cold, stalled out, but when warm, ran fine. Turned out there were plastic floats in the whatcha-ma-callit, not brass like other engines, and they were full of gas. Service station guy was aghast. Your problem is certainly different, but reproducibility is a key clue.

Option: is there a Honda dealer closer? They may be able to troubleshoot for your, and determine if an Acura dealer needs to get in there and replace something. Better than buying things and guessing. I did that few times on my Jeep, wasted $.

Check your vacuum hoses too, an air leak can cause idle problems. Eventually you'll probably get a check engine light but if it's part of the emissions system that's causing this it can take awhile to show up. Sometimes codes are stored before a light goes on so take the car to autozone or another local shop that reads the codes for free...you may just get lucky. Otherwise take it to a local mechanic and try to find the cause because randomly throwing parts at a problem will make you go broke quick.

I was referring to the engine. e.g. "Only when starting up," or "anytime, after starting or after running for more than 10 minutes."

its only happened when the car has been running for a while. So I would have to say the engine is warm.

I put in injector cleaner and an octane boost yesterday along with a fresh tank of gas and no problems today. I am going to keep on watching it. I also hooked up a code reader and nothing is reporting.

The trouble seems to have gone away.. It looks to be bad gas.
