shifter pops out of gear

I just had my tranny replaced last week at acura and they put a new tran and clutch in. Its been a week and last night it fell out of 3rd gear when I let off the gas. I thought maybe I didnt have the shifter all the way engaged and kinda figured it couldnt be messing up its brand new. Well today it has done it 4 times and its only in 3rd gear it does it. It doesnt go all the way into neutral it goes in between and grinds my clutch. Im taking it back on tuesday to the dealer and they are going to look at it. Im just curious as to what the prob might be. Im a chick and really dont know much about cars so any input would be helpful.

Don't knock yourself for being a "chic". It sounds like they didn't adjust the cables to fully engage 3rd gear.

Could this be the same reason I couldnt shift into 5th gear when I picked up my car? When I first picked it up last week there wasnt a spot for 5th gear and I had to leave it with them another day to fix it. When I got it back the 2nd time it was fine. Im wondering if the dealer put a rebuilt tranny in and maybe the syncro (sp?) is the reason for my new prob. And maybe thats the reason this is my 2nd problem within a week with this new tran.

I'm no transmission specialist, but the fact that your 5th gear didn't match up, they definitely have some adjusting of the cable and lever mechanisms.

Do you think my Comptech shortshifter would have anything to do with this prob?

Well, it certainly would bring any tolerance issues up, meaning, if the adjustment isn't within tolerance, the short shift will make it more pronounced.

The dealer doesnt know I have this on my car. Its really making me think about it more since my tranny failed at 56K and now im having these new probs with this new transmission. I scared they are going to get into adjusting things and find out about it and put up a fuss. I dont know what I need to do right now.

The short shifter is absolutely not the issue, but if they feel they resolved it and then you installed the CT short shifter, they may say, not our deal. Easy thing to do, if you or a friend installed this, remove it and take it in and complain of the same issue. I'm hoping JTso chimes in here.

The short shifter was put on the car about 40000 miles prior to the transmission failing. So , im wondering if i just need to have the original shifter put back in and maybe no further probs will come of this.
