Seat Heater light failure!

Hi All,

The seat heater lights in my 04 went out. I talked to the dealer and he said it's pass first year warranty so no coverage. Also, he wants over $100 to replace! Anyone replace those themselves? I don't have a shop manual to view the procedure and I don't want to damage the sweet interior. A step through and / or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Did you get a quote for just the parts? The installation is pretty easy. Do a quick search on "center console removal" and you'll be off to a good start.

Thanks Folks.

I did a search on the console and got a good link, but it says I had to disconnect the seat heater switches first. Anyone know how to do that?

Thanks

Isn't the standard warranty 4years / 45000 miles? Then why in the world is it not covered?

Also, mine went out couple of days ago, but magically reappeared the day before yesterday.

I agree - this doesn't seem like an "ordinary wear" or "maintenance item" that wouldn't be covered under the normal 48/50,000 warranty. I would try another local dealer and get their opinion.

What went out, the light that comes on at night that higlights the image or the ornage LED's telling you there on? The light that comes on at night went out on mine but only on the pass side. Dealer said its not covered under warranty but would change it anyway. Its a $2 bulb.

Go back to that stealer and slap them all for me. Then show them your 4 year/50k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. If they still want you to pay, go to another dealer. This really isn't worth pulling out your center console by yourself.

How the heck is this not warranty?! The seat heater light is not a wear-and-tear item. I'm curious to know how stealers are justifying this.

You don't have to buy the switch...if you find a site that sells the part, you can get just the bulb.....I know...did it myself

it is a bulb like domn mentioned, does that count as wear and tear? I think a good dealership would have you buy the part, but replace it for free.

before buying the bulb...i would make sure that's the prob...you can test it by switching bulbs between the driver/pass. when the light went out on mine, i thought it was the bulb at first, but it turned out to the be switch itself. just fyi.

Thanks for the info, All.

I just removed the bulbs and tried swapping them to see if it really was the bulbs causing a problem. While doing so, two more bulbs stopped working. Not sure whats up. If it is the bulbs or an electrical problem. Seems odd for the bulbs to blow while swapping them. All I have working now is the two ambre bulbs on one switch. The rest aren't working! I made sure they were secure when screwing them back in and one that I swapped works fine so I don't think that is the problem.

Taking it to the dealer on Monday and will have him check it out. He wanted over a $100 to replace them last time I talked to him. If something is causing the bulbs to fail, I'm going to be really upset because he didn't even check to see what was wrong!

Anyone else think this is a little odd for bulbs to fail while I was swapping them?

Not sure how they could be put in backwards. I tried fitting them into the slot one way than turned it 180 degrees and tried again but no luck!

I've got an '04 with the driver's side seat heater light out. It seems most of us here have the driver's sides out. I'll have the dealer fix it next time I'm in for service.

I agree about the warranty, this is definitely a warranty issue that should be fixed and paid in full by Acura, no owner should accept anything less.

I think I broke my passanger side bulb the other day installing my shift boot. I was pulling on the heater clip and knocked it when it abruptly came out. both high and low bulbs work, but regular one is out. i'm going to pick up a bulb and hopefully that's all it is!

Yeah my driver side heater backlight went out on my accord. Several people have fixed it by buying the bulb from Radio Shack.

Anyone have the Radio Shack or Acura part number just for the bulb itself?

Lightbulb Radio Shack Part # for Seat Heater Switch Bulb

For posterity in this forum, the Radio Shack part number is 272-1092 (#7219 Micro Lamp) 12 Volt 60 mA Wire Terminal Base. This is for the center bulb that illuminates the Seat Icon and not for the yellow dot bulbs. They looked similar but I'm not sure.

Radio Shack Web: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tId=2103780&cp

The description says something about colors but the two I received were clear.

Buying the bulb from Radio Shack was $1.49 for 2 (in Nov 05 US dollars).

The center trim pulled out and I saved over $100 by doing it myself. Remove the switch from the connector and simply unscrew the screw on the side of the switch and remove the bulb. Replace opposite way and reconnect the switch.

Specs:
Rated Voltage: 12.0V
Base Size & Style: 1" wire terminals
Rated Current: 60mA
Brightness: 0.15MSCP
Lamp Type: 7219
Bulb Type: T-1
Average Life: 10,000 Hours

Pretty similar yes. You turn the screw with a small jewelers screwdriver - remove the bulb, replace it and turn the screw closed.

Its like a christmas bulb with the two wires on the end that you just twist into the existing slots.

its interesting to see this thread. I had the same probbalem a few weeks ago, and i get it intermittently everynow and then. But i just give it a small tap right onto the seat logo of the switch. and its ok it comes back on. the last time was 2 weeks ago. so, so far so good.

just to update. if you squeeze the connector tightly to unplug from the unit, you will crush the bulb(s). use the button on the side and gently remove the plugs. blew one installing wiring for an aux. plug and the 2nd one installing the short shifter.
