I know there are similar threads here but couldn't find anything that sounded like the issue I am having...

I have an 06 TSX with 153k on the odometer. Just recently, my car has been having a tough time starting in the mornings. The engine will attempt to turnover, just doesn't start on the first go. I replaced the sparks about 50k ago, I don't have any codes, battery, alternator, and starter have all been tested and are fine. Once the car starts it runs well. Can anyone suggest anything that I may have missed? Thanks!

Low fuel pressure can cause hard starts. Try "priming" by turning key to On, back to Off three times before attempting to start. If starting is improved fuel delivery is likely the issue. You could have a shop confirm before replacing fuel pump and inlet screen.

I know you said the battery tested okay, but how old is it? Many batteries that test okay truly aren't. You mentioned this started happening recently - and it has been as cold as hell recently. Extreme temps (high or low) are tough on batteries and wouldn't be surprised if it was the battery.

The battery is just under 3 years old. I agree with what you're saying, that was my original thought. It was about 40 degrees out the first time the engine didn't want to start, the electronics and accessories ran fine though. The car has always started eventually(usually 2 or 3 attempts max) so I'm not sure what to make of that.

In addition, I just had a new code pop up that I have never seen before. P0705. "Transmission Range Sensor TRS Circuit Malfunction". Most likely unrelated but figured it was worth mentioning.

Trans range switch controls start lockout when in P or N. It can prevent starter from engaging but would not cause a hard start.

So I replaced the battery but the car didn't want to start in the last snow storm we had. It eventually started but it took two or three attempts. Does this sound like it could be fuel pump related?

Even though your starter tested OK, it's going to get my vote for causing your problem. My son's '07 TSX has had the same problem: slow starts (even after new battery) and the issue was made worse by cold temperature. The starter finally died the other day. We had to push-start it to get it home. I'm awaiting the arrival of a starter and then will begin the arduous process of replacing it.

I think you are right, after replacing the battery I think the starter would be the next thing to go after. Which starter did you end up ordering? I was looking at getting the Denso one.

I bought a Remy from rockauto.com. We don't have the budget to be OEM enthusiasts. With the core charge and 2 day shipping it cost around $180. Good luck with yours!

Hi there. Sometimes it can be as simple as a weak grounding cable or the starter power cable. Here in the snow belt the grounding screws get a little rusty or cable ends get corroded.
Since you did the battery, I'd look at the starter, too. Good luck!
