Replacing the front gages lens -- how expensive?
I need to replace the front gages clear plastic lens. Some how the plastic has been mared by some cleaner (ammonia?) and it is streaked and cloudy. I've looked up the price for the part and it is cheap $5 and is available as seperate part. BUT I wonder if I'll get creamed by the labor charges.
I have the service manual on my Xmas list, but would anyone be willing to share the pages showing the gages replacemnt?
Thank you in advance.

I don't have a camera right now to take pics of the manual but the removal is actually pretty simple. There's only two screws holding the cluster in. To get to the screws, you have to remove the lower dashboard cover which again is only held in by a couple screws. Looks like a 5min job to get it out.
The manual doesn't have a description on how to disassemble the cluster so you can replace the lens so you're on your own at that point.
If anyone else has a manual and can take some pics or scans, it's on page 22-227.

GREAT! Just your brief description gives me hope that I won't get hosed.
If some kind soul could share what is in the manual, it sounds like I could take a shot at doing this myself.
Thank you, Dan!

Now I know what it costs to replace the instrumentation lens
I have since found out what it costs for the dealer to replace the front instrument lens -$103 US. The part is comparatively cheep about $3, but labor is clear the expensive part.
Since I raised this issue I have tried all manner of solvents to remove the streaking/cloudy haze on the lens. My service tech tired some their solvents too (Acura certified spit? <g>).
In the end it tired of it I sucked it up and had the dealer replace the part at my 30K service.
FYI

OK "gages" should be "gauges". I would love spell check feature for posts. This is first time I have every seen anyone question spelling. With all the funky spellings, abreviations and odd allusions I had thought almost anything goes.
I'll do better I promise. <g>

Before you take it to the dealer, why don't you get a little "Brasso" and try it. I've used it on my gages in my Mustang, on the headlights and on the visor of my helmet. It works well for removing little scratches and the yellowing effect of old plastic.
Here's a link for what the stuff looks like. I know it says brass, copper etc, its a very light abrasive and it worked for me in the past.

Hope that helps,

Andrew,
Had you posted this a week earlier you might have saved me $103.
Good tip. I'll add it to the little file-o-facts in the back of my head for future needs.
Thank you.
Meanwhile, I have to laugh at myself since "gages" means like mouth gag, which explains why some folks have been wondering what the heck this thread is about.
English is my second language -- I first learned to babble. And there are days when I revert.
