Repair Glove Box that won't open (detailed instructions available for download)
There appear to be many posts about glove boxes that won't open in the TSX 1st GEN and other models. It appears that the majority of the failures are in the lock mechanism (top left) and not the latch mechanism (in the centre). You can determine this by peering behind the handle on the lock mechanism and using a screwdriver to push the end of the linking wire. If it releases the latch, this confirms that the lock mechanism is at fault. This post addresses a failed lock mechanism.
The common response from dealers is that the whole glove box assembly must be replaced because the broken elements are sealed inside. However with a little bit of work, it is possible to take apart the sealed unit, repair the lock mechanism, and put the whole thing back together.

Interesting that you seem to think it's a not uncommon occurrence. I've been here for over 6 years, and I can remember.... well, I only need one hand to count the number of times of I can remember reading about this problem. Thanks for helping out though.

Add one more to the count, mine has this issue. Too bad the link for the fix no longer works.
