Squeaking/Creaking sounds when pressing on brake pedal

hello all,

I have a 2005 TSX with almost 100k on it. This issue arose a couple of days ago during the drive home in LA traffic which is all stop and go. I noticed when pressing on the brake pedal, it makings a creaking/squeaking sound. I'm not exactly sure where it's coming from but hopefully one of you guys here have come across this issue.

Here is the exploded diagram of the assembly. Should I be looking at part #6 and using lithium grease there?

Thanks in advance.

How loud is the noise? I've noticed that the "whoosh" air pressure sound that the brake pedal makes on these cars is unusually loud. If I'm going under 25, I can clearly hear it no matter how lightly I push on it. Is yours more of a loud creak or a higher pitched squeak?

It's loud and it's creaking. It's definitely not the "whoosh" sound. I can pulse the brakes and hear it consistently. If I press 50% and release to 25% on the brake I can hear it but from 50% to 100% (going down all the way), it does not sound. If I can get get some audio/video, I will post it.

What a weird sound, and your question is a good one. Odd that there's no follow up on this, but that's not unusual. I guess it doesn't occur to many to share the answers to their questions if and when they solve the problem. I'd suggest finding someone to push the brake pedal while you stick your head under the dash and watch and listen. The noise sounds like it's inside and pretty noticeable, and I can't imagine that you couldn't identify it if you can get close to it.

Suggest spraying WD40 on brake pedal pivot bushing first to see if pivot bushing is source of problem. WD40 will penetrate and temporarily lubricate. Considering difficulty of accessing/replacing pivot bushing, this may be the best "long term" solution.

You could also spray the brake light switch (part 6) w/ WD40, but I doubt it's the source of this noise.

If not brake pedal pivot bushing, it could be the brake booster push rod is dragging on the boot. Again hitting w/ WD40 will confirm source of noise and offer temporary fix.

Other spray lubes may last longer. WD40 tends to evaporate, but is non-staining in my experience.

good luck

Has anyone resolved this issue? I sprayed lithium grease and had no effect to the noise.

Lithium grease will not penetrate to reach squeaking surfaces. A light penetrant oil such as WD40 is necessary.

A squeak can sometimes be located by touching surfaces to feel the vibration.

good luck

Confirm noise source is from brake pedal pivot bushing/bearing, remove, and repair/replace assembly.

good luck

I had this problem on a 2006 TSX, and just fixed it.

Sprayed a tiny amount of CRC white lithium grease where the pivot pin rotates in each hole on each side of the pivot.

I may not have explained that very clearly, so here's a picture that hopefully helps.

The red arrows show the two spots where I sprayed:

The grease can came with an extension tube (basically a skinny straw) that I used to spray the grease right onto the pivot holes. I sprayed just a tiny amount on each spot, and it worked, squeak is gone.
