Popping/Rattling/Squeaking sunroof.

So, I recently discovered the Popping (upon tilting opening the moonroof). It was also rattling while it was in the tilt position. Upon my visit to Acura today, I had them look at the sunroof. The tech ended up lubing the sunroof with WD-40, and then some Acura white lithium grease stuff. I mean, he really lubed it up. So far, so good. It seems to stop the "popping" sound as well. I guess that popping sound is attributed to a lack of lube from the factory. Anyway's, I just thought I'd let you guys know how it turned out at the dealership.

ahhh wd40???? that'll just dry the rubber up and make it worse over time! Silicon spray all the way.

^^ + 1. I've read that WD40 breaks down rubber. I'm all in favor of the lithium grease, but if I were you I'd wipe everything down and then just re-apply the lithium grease without the WD40.

303 works pretty well for a temporary fix. It will last like 2-3 weeks and then it just rubs and evaporates off. I may have to try the lithium greese, just wasn't sure if it would get all over the paint if i used that.....

Weird guys, I had the same concern about the WD-40, but there isn't much I could do about it. I did ask the tech about it because I had to go for a ride with him to make sure the rattling has stopped. I told him my concerns in regards to WD-40, and he said that it shouldn't hurt anything. He said he used a little bit of it, and it didn't do anything anyway's, so then he used some Honda/Acura lithium grease stuff. He really lubed it up, and so far it seems ok, but we'll see what happens. Why is WD-40 that bad? Even if it's just used once, it will dry up the rubber?

^^ the WD40 website says that it is safe to use on rubber but if you google "WD40 rubber" you'll see a lot of different sources say that it rots rubber. I probably wouldn't worry about a one-time application, but, I wouldn't make a habit of it.

Thanks for checking that out for me! I would think that if their website says it's "safe" for rubber, I'd think for the most part it would be. Anyway's, I will insist upon them NOT using it the next time. I asked the tech about it, and he didn't seem to think it would be an issue. Oh well, I will make sure it's not used again. I'm figuring if nothing else, the white lithium grease that is on there now should counteract what the WD-40 might do as far as rotting the rubber, but probably not
