Not sure if I have a battery, starter or alternator problem. please help!

So earlier today, my car wouldn't start. I figured the worst and thought it may be the alternator or starter.. but idk, I jumped it and it started. turned it on and off a few times and it seemed fine. Could it just be a weak battery that lost charge? I have an Acura battery from 2005 on my 04 TSX. It has the 12yr warranty. Should I go to the dealer and have the battery checked? I have 97K miles, could it be the alternator or starter? there are no lights on the dash, and all electronics work great.

Wouldn't start means engine wouldn't turn over or turned very slowly?
It likely is the battery. A 2005 battery in 2012 (7 years) is likely not good. TSX batteries do not have a reputation for very long life (it is probably because the battery is physically small).
A dealer or auto store can load test the battery and give you a verdict.

Acura gives 12 year warranties on batteries??? This battery is now 7 years old. It is time to change it ASAP. If you get more than 3 or 4 years on a battery, you are very lucky. Even if the battery checks out at the dealer, change it. It is time to get a new one.

alright... so looks like i'll head to the dealer and get it replaced. oh no, its 100Months.. 8 years nvm.

"Each includes a 100-month limited warranty (when installed by an authorized Acura dealer), 3 years free replacement and a prorated warranty for the balance of 100 months. " from Acura's site.

well the engine was hesitating to crank up..so wouldn't turn over. and I heard a clicking noise when I turned the key all the way. I jumped the car and restarted a few times.

I wouldn't fool around with the dealer. You can find a better battery for less money elsewhere. If you're not able to change the battery yourself, try Sears (for a Diehard), or maybe one of the chain Auto parts stores. They will probably R&R the battery for you.

yeah. the bastards wouldn't cover it! said that the 06 battery didn't get a new 100mo. warranty! yeah.. my ass!!! Faxed my 06 invoice and the estimate to corporate.. paid 92bucks in 2006 and they might give me a refund for that. but what are some good non-Acura batteries? for the TSX. I don't want some unreliable aftermarket battery.

I have had good experiences with Interstate batteries. Their top of the line model for the TSX is called the Megatron.

Try a search, batteries have a been a very popular subject (and as expected, like oil filters, oil, etc., everyone has a story to tell and a favorite battery to go along with it).
