Noise and red dust on and near serpentine belt

I just noticed our TSX is making a fairly constant squealing noise at idle which seems to come from the area of the serpentine belt. The belt does not have cracks in it...Actually it looks to be in good shape. However, there is a redish or rust colored dust on the outside of belt as well as on other components such as the power steering pump etc. near the belt. Any ideas as to what may be going on?

Upon further investigation I've found that the noise/squeal goes away after I drive the car a few miles and warm the engine up...There is no noise/squeal at idle then...

I had about the same. Replaced the belt and cleaned the pullys and the noise is gone. Made sure to try and wiggle the idler pully to make sure it wasnt wobblin and squekin while the belt was off as well or it needs replaced too.

I had the Acura dealer look at it when I had the oil changed by them a few weeks ago. They told me quit worrying about, so I have.

I'd bet money that the red "dust" is remnants of dried water that has been exposed to something that's rusty, then thrown around by the belt. I wonder where the water is coming from....

If you temporarily release serpentine belt and spin tensioner idler by hand, you should be able to detect any bearing looseness from rattling/vibration noise. A good bearing will spin silently.

good luck
