moved to Canada and can't upgrade NAV?

I bought a 2004 TSX a couple years ago when I lived in Boston. I recently moved to Montreal and found out that there is very little NAV coverage in Canada. I called ACURA and asked to upgrade my DVD to include Canada. I was told that the TSX with navigation was first introduced in the US in 2004, and that only later (2006) was the navigation introduced with the TSX in Canada. It turns out that the software and features of the 2006 TSX navigation are different and not compatible with the 2004 TSX navigation. Therefore I was told that no Canada upgrade exists for the 2004 TSX Navigation.

Has anybody ever heard of such nonsense??? Has this happened to anybody else? Any ideas how to get around this short of buying an entirely new navigation system?

That does sound very strange, but then plausible if they found problems with the Navi unit and changed to a different OEM supplied one.
Someone from your area here (maybe even a dealer if you ask nicely) will loan you their DVD and you can see if it updates or not.
Really strange to hear Acura/Honda would go down this road unless it was forced upon them.

Canada and US have different color dvd's, which are not interchangeable. The 2006's navi system's hardware is different than the pre-2006 version (The 2006 is much faster).

You'll have to swap the hardware if you want to use the canada version...which means buying a new navi system. You might be better off buying an aftermarket gps system like Tom-Tom

I am 99% sure the Canadian market TSX's had NAVI starting in 2005, not 2006. I've seen TSX's w/ Canadian plates that had Navi, and they were prior to the release of the 2006's.

Surprised the CDN and USDM discs are different...

we had navi in 2005 for sure.. i have a friend that has a 2005 6mt/nav...

what i find weird is that when i bought my car i got both the canadian/partial us disc as well as the entire US and hawaii/alaska disk...

i would've thought they'd do the same for US customers incase they decided to visit canada...

maybe try another dealer?

2005 was the first year for navi in Canada. You should be able to use that disc in your vehicle without a problem.

For 2006, you would just need to replace the DVD drive AFAIK. See this other thread where a member swapped it out and found it worked with the rest of the navi unit.
