Mechanic Botched Repair & Destroyed My Transmission?
2006 Acura TSX Automatic 110k miles
Situation: My car's transmission has failed and is currently being taken care of by a reputable transmission specialist.
Background: A little while ago, I had my car taken to my main mechanic because it died in cold weather. They replaced the starter which fixed the problem, but then - overnight & out of nowhere - my dash lights up and the car starts jerking & slow engaging through gears. I'm told I need a 'pressure control solenoid' replaced so I have the repair done, the warning lights reset, but the car ultimately still has the jerking and delayed shifting. After contemplating the situation and confirming the problem via some short trips, the car only made the delayed shifting/jerking when rushed or changing from P to R then D or downshifting into first. If I kept shifting and deceleration slow & deliberate, it felt OK. Thinking it fixed itself on it's own, I was relieved, but then because of a sudden deceleration incident in traffic, the car now started jerking through every gear and my dash lit up again.
Today: The transmission mechanic calls and I'm told that when removing the starter, it's very possible my mechanic damaged the solenoid and in replacing it, did not properly change/install the o-rings which ultimately led to the transmission failure. He mentions it's not a stock OEM part, as well. He documents the problem and takes pictures.
Questions: Is this possible and would this cause an entire transmission to go belly up? How can I be sure? What questions should I ask?
