Intermitent buzzing/groaning sound as car begins to move on 1st
Car's a 2006 6MT with just under 42K miles. Not sure if it's the clutch is slipping but it only happens on 1st. Here are my observations:
1. Happens when starting to move while car is in first gear.
2. Sound seems to be coming around the area of the right front wheel.
3. When it happens, the car usually has been parked for a while. I should say that it has happened even after the car has been running for 15 miles/30 minutes again from a stop.
4. Sound occurs as the car starts to go and the clutch pedal is about half-way in (just at the point when the car is just starting to move forward)
Has anyone noticed this on their car as well?
Thanks!

it seems that I am having a similar issue
I have a 2005 TSX with 86000 miles on it with 6MT.
Mine just started doing that.
1. It only happens when I am taking off from a complete stop in 1st gear.
it would make this screeching or grinding nose like something needs lube.
2. I notice the clutch never slips
3. it doesn't happen every take off from 1st gear.
I have an appointment for a test drive at my dealer on thursday. hopefully I don't have to replce the whole clutch.

The throwout (release) bearing on my 2006 6MT started making noise at mid-30K miles. It happens only occasionally, and naturally when I took it to Acura the service tech couldn't duplicate it. I plan on taking it in again and hoping they can reproduce it.
I would describe the sound as being like a screech or a groan. It only happens when taking off in 1st gear, and more often while turning or going uphill, although it will do it randomly when taking off on level ground without turning. It's rather embarrassing when it happens as you are pulling away from the drive-thru window.![Drag](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/drag.gif)
click here for a video and listen closely between the :01 and :02 second mark. It definitely sounds louder in person than the camera makes it sound.

it sounds like mine. I took it to the dealer today. the guy test drove it said it is the throwout bearing. I was quoted $1300 to replace the clutch and the throwout bearing. if the fly wheel needs to be replace it will be extra $350
since my car is almost 90,000 miles it makes sense to replace the clutch also since the are taking the transmission down. i got a 09 RDX for a loaner though

If it's just the ABS self test which is completely normal. It's supposed to happen everytime you start your car and pull away. It will be a little buzzing/groaning sound for about 2 secs and you wont hear it again until you turn the car off and restart it and pull away again.

Question really is, is it also happening in reverse to, as in you are pulling out of your garage or a parking space. Easiest test is to start the car and wait for the ABS self-test to do its thing. Then see if the noise is there. I noticed my throwout bearing made noises in many gears in really cold weather, not just in first. I could also replicate it at a stop light if I slowly engaged the clutch, thus the noise was prolonged and more obvious. If it is definitely a noise from the right front, it sounds more like the ABS self-test though.

for EVER more!
i am certain that i have this problem too. i've posted about it under "steering wheel groan" but i am starting to think that it may be the clutch release you're all talking about, that makes a bit more sense. i am hearing it more and more. I am due for B12 service and have 52.5k
will they fix under warranty?!

The dealership currently have my car and will address the issue under warranty. I believe what helped my case is that I reported the issue about 1.5 years ago. With my car currently having 48200 miles, question about the issue being caused by wear and tear will not be pursued by the dealership or Acura. So... Once you this issue happens to your car, make sure you get it documented by the dealership.

Got the car back this afternoon. So far, so good. Dealership replaced clutch pressure plate, clutch disk, and bearing. I had to pay for the disk ($173) which was deemed a wear and tear part. Dealership also performed an alignment.
Hoosier_Buddy, the service document didn't specify a claim type. They only noted "replaced clutch pressure plate and bearing for problem of noise - replaced clutch disk also at time of repair - performed alignment after repairs"

Took my 2006 TSX 6MT w/46K+ miles in for a service appointment at Rizza Acura in Orland Park once again yesterday for the release (throwout) bearing 1st gear squawk/screech noise issue. Received a phone call yesterday evening stating that they could not duplicate the issue. Stopped out there this morning to take a a ride with the technician and the vehicle immediately exhibited the symptom while exiting the parking lot. The technician stated that he would contact Acura Techline for advice. Received a call this evening stating that the technician spoke with Acura Techline and that they advised that the issue is considered normal and that they would be releasing the vehicle.
I am planning on contacting Acura Customer Service in the morning and am wondering if anyone here who has had this issue resolved under warranty would be willing to share the details of their service repair order so that I may present it to customer service rep. Also, if anyone has had this issue resolved at a Chicagoland dealership and would be willing to share the name of the servicing dealer I would greatly appreciate that info as well.

Oh that's definitely my problem. I've been thinking about replacing the clutch and flywheel (with a lighter one) so I guess I'll add the throwout bearing to the list. Thanks for the link.

Anyone have any advice on contacting Acura Client Servies with an issue such as this?

RIzza Acura = Dealer? If so, call Acura Customer Service.
I started having this problem at around 60K mile. And mines an 04 TSX 6MT. So it's definatley not normal.

Well, I duplicated the problem again for the dealer (this time with a senior tech in the car). The sound seemed to stump him too. I left the car with them a few days for them to work on -- and late afternoon the service dept. called and said they got approval from Acura to tear things down and take a look. Hopefully they will find the issue and agree to fix it.

The said they found premature wear on the clutch disk because the main shaft appeared to not be properly lubricated. So they were doing to lube the main shaft and replace the clutch disk (but not anything else). Does that make sense?

It would seem foolhardy not to replace all of the components normally associated with a clutch replacement (clutch disk, pressure plate, release bearing, etc) while the transmission is out. The majority of the expense of a TSX clutch replacement is the labor.

Hoosier_Buddy,
I realized that. I pressed the dealer to find out (from the district manager) why these other parts were not covered. He said because they didn't show any signs of wear. So I am footing the bill for them (less 20% off the parts -- which ironically brought the price down to what online Acura dealers say the list price is) but all the labor and fluids are being covered. I'm not overly happy with Acura's response and I plan on contacting the district office and possibly go above them if need be.

Well since I'm out of warranty I just went ahead and replaced the clutch and accompanied parts. When I pulled it all apart, I couldn't believe my eyes. One of the tangs on the end of the release bearing had broken off and the release fork was doing a half assed release job on the clutch. Ever since replacing the oem with and exedy unit I am quite pleased with the results. Best of luck for all you guys still within warranty!
P.S. If you want to try to replicate the groaning noise try it on an incline in 1st gear
