Cool Injen SP1431 CAI Grommit Question/Help!?!?!

Today I received my Injen CAI from Excellerate (I ordered it on Sunday and it was delivered on my doorstep this afternoon) . I pondered the thought of purchasing the Comptech Icebox to replace my AEM SRI, but after a couple days I came to my senses and realized that I will definetly miss the "whooshing" sound coming from a cone style intake. So here I am today a new owner of the latest CAI released by Injen the SP1431.

Well the question is that I am having trouble having the air sensor grommit "rubber piece" staying flush on to the intake. Shown here on my previous intake:
I was wondering if anybody else had this problem with theirs?

Thanks guys.

I'm also thinking of just getting a new grommet to replace it possibly... Just another option I guess.

Yes it is actually. I purchased almost everything in my engine bay (Euro R Valve cover, Spoon Oil Cap, Spoon radiator cap, and JDM dipstick and all) from a fellow AZ member. Trust me I know how you feel, with the wide array of knockoff companies out there. The only place I would recommend is boomplustoys or inlinefour; you'll possibly pay an arm and a leg for it but you'll definetly know that your getting actual quality parts. I was just lucky to get all these items for a "real good price."

When you say "staying flush", are you saying that piece doesn't sit all the way down touching the intake? The pic doesnt show much except for placement of said piece. Maybe a different angle showing what "staying flush" would help? I'll try to look at mine during lunch, but it's not the 1431, it's the regular one (1430?)....

The OEM rubberize grommit doesn't seem to fit on the pre-screwed hole on the intake tube as you see here. I am lightly pressing down on the IAT sensor and the grommit seems as though it wants to pop out. I must apologize first for the quality of the picture (phone camera), I'm at work so I don't have my camera on me.

i can't see much in the pic, but why won't the grommit stay flush? did you push half of it through the pipe? is the diameter of the grommit just too large to fit through and stay in there?

Yes, I did push it half way, but it the whole on the intake is slightly larger then that of the OEM grommit. I did however went to autozone to pick up numerous size grommits for $2.99; but none of them seem to fit .

It almost looks like u either didnt push it all the way through to the "seam line" on the grommet or the drilled hole diameter is to small.

wait a minute, what is the OEM grommet, i thought the OEM intake only has a "clamp" where the sensor is, and the grommet is from Injen or in my case K&N

I believe it to be an OEM grommit. I did however pushed the grommit all the way in. The sensor remains in place when the car is on (due to the vacuum effect of the intake). However when I phyiscally move the sensor around myself it has the effect of "slaushing" around type deal.

Hmm...I see what you're talking about. This is kind of interesting. The new 1431 Injen with MR technology has the hole for the intake sensor on the intake tube. I have the Injen RD1430 and the IAT sensor hole is on the rubber elbow. There's only one person on the forum that I remember getting the 1431. He had some pics somewhere. Maybe you can PM him and see if he had similar problems. Also, when you removed the IAT from your old intake, did you by chance leave any pieces on the intake?

JohnnyMilano is the one who also has the Injen 1431. So does that IAT sensor attached to the bottom side of the intake tube? I can't see it in his pics. Edit: I see it now in this pic.

Yeah intresting indeed. I am certain that I did not mis-place any tubing, since I utilzed it on my AEM SRI prior to switching over (it did fit the AEM SRI intake perfect though). I knew someone else also had purchased the SP1431, thanks TSX536 you just jumped started my memory.

^^ Yeah, it's suprising how much stuff I remember from the forum. I know what mods a lot of the members have.

Too bad that stuff replaced everything that I learned in college. Damn you Acurazine!
