Infamous window tint scratches!

Hello all,

I'm just curious if anyone has come up with a remedy for the window tint scratch issue? I know that people have suggested moleskin, but I've read various posts where people have still encountered scratches with the moleskin installed.

Anyway's, I currently have my windows tinted WITHOUT moleskin. I now have what appears to be a super fine vertical scratch in the center of my passenger window. This scratch is ONLY noticeable if the direct sun hits it just right. Anyway's, I was wondering if this scratch is going to get bigger and worse?

Lastly, does anyone have any pictures of their scratched window tint? If so, could you please post a pic? I want to see how bad it will eventually get.

Thanks,

Jeff

just go get it replaced.

if you have a good quality tint, and if it was done in a quality shop, you have
a lifetime guarantee on it.

or at minimum a 5 year one.

so just go have them replace it.
let the tint shop worry about scratches.

if they want to put on moleskin, or felt or whatever, that's their deal.

I have Madico tint. I wil have to call the guy and see what he has to say. Just out of curiosity, have you had window tint issues?

Not sure if its going to get much worse but it could, plus its very unsightly when you have to look at it every time.

I just got SunTek tints. Amazing quality, clarity, and visibility. I also had felt/moleskin installed and I haven't looked back.

I would re-do your tints but also get the felt installed in the inner window lining.

nope.
my tint comes with a protective polymer or something that is scratch resistant.
it's built into the tint.

it has a lifetime guarantee against scratching.

Llumar Axcess.

the tint shop refused to use moleskin or felt or whatever, said it's ridiculous and
only for cheap tint. totally not needed. "Whatever, okay" was my response.

if I ever have any problems, I just go in for replacement.
but as of yet, not a one.

The problem arises when dirt particles get pressed against the tint when the window rolls up and down.

Moleskin can only scratch the tint if it becomes so dirty that it no longer acts as a 'spacer' between the window and the trim piece. In that case, that is a personal problem lol.

I have had moleskin and 3M tint, both installed myself (first time for both), and have had no problems in over 6 months.

I had my car tinted in October 2006. I had a few scratches here and there but nothing major. The driver door window was always totally scratch free until the last few weeks. Now it's starting to scratch and is pissing me off.
