i fvcked up... Me: 1, Steering wheel: 0

my wallet: -$500. so i got pretty pissed on saturday and punched my steering wheel... i guess i hit it fairly hard because the cover on the airbag split. i'm pretty sure i have to buy a whole new airbag. you can't just buy just the cover itself, right? hopefully someone tells me differently....

temper FTL. so who has an airbag they want to sell me????

How's your hand? Need another $500 to get it set in a cast?

You might consider looking for a used wheel either on this forum or at junkyards...

You might also want to check the steering wheel to make sure it's not damaged. There's a possibility that you have to replace both items.

Btw, did you hit the center of the steering wheel?

the steering wheel seems fine. it split where it would have split if the airbag deployed (down the side and then across the middle) so my guess is that its kinda designed with those breaking points.

i hit just to the left of the center because i hit it with my left hand. if the pic is resized you can see a knuckle mark. i'm pissed at myself.

May I also suggest anger management. In the end, it will cost you less. Good luck on the hunt.

I would also check into anger management classes. Sounds like it will be cheaper in the long run....

I won't parrot the obvious, but I would hope that experience (+ out of pocket expenses) will season you and "learn ya" about the futility of getting angry and physical.

I've done this, even recently. Third time my Jeep died on me, in the middle of a bad storm, on a dark street in a so-so part of town. I screamed and pounded my wheel. But -- I knew the wheel could take it ... and replacement of 1987 wheel would run me much less that this will cost you. Just a shared experience, not salt on your wounds.

That said ... better the car than a person who, perhaps, drove you to this rage. Hitting others ... FTMFL.

Wow man. You're probably luck the airbag didn't blow up in your face or something. Good luck finding a replacement.

Maybe you should leave it like that way for a while so each time you see it you remember to keep yourself calm. I have done stuff like this in the past as well and it sucks. Good luck with the replacement.

True, that. A daily (if you drive daily) reminder that one's temper, unchecked, can have real, negative dividends.

I'd be worried that the air bag might not deploy correctly, though. Safety issue => expedite repair. IMPO.

haha, not trying to wave my internet pens around, but it is in most people's best interest to stay on my good side. i'm a fairly big dude with a bad temper. i'm a lot better then i used to be but i still fly off the handle every once in a while... and like davidspalding said , better the steering wheel and not my gf who was the one who pissed me off. she was sitting in the passenger seat when it happened.... she didnt say much after that. later she actually even offered to help pay for it because she felt bad that she pissed me off to that extent. she's such a great chick. of course i would never let her pay for my stupidity....

Hey I'm glad you didn't get injured by the airbag deploying. As some others have said, try and find someone who has done a JDM swap. Good luck in your search!

haha i dont think thats necessary. i would never harm a fellow TSX'er... unless they REALLY deserved it.

that reminds me.. lets get some meets together in the Boston area some time this summer. There was one not too far from here but it was all RSX's and 'teg's. i think there was only like 1 or 2 other TSX's besides me.

Be careful doing that, the airbag can hit back.

can anyone confirm that the airbag from a 2005 will fit a 2006 TSX? The exploded diagrams of each are below...

2005

2006

it looks like part #7 on the 2005 diagram makes up for the difference in shape at the lower part and the volume/cruise/etc switches look the same but i want to make sure before i spend my money on one.
