How to Set Gain on Line Output Converter? Scosche 2-ch LOC

OK, I have an Acura TSX 2005 and I did not want to get ride of my stock head unit. So I bought a line output converter. Now I am trying to fine tune it so it sounds as good as it can. There are two dials I can adjust one for the left channle and one for the right channle. They guy who sold me the line output converter just turned all the dials for the gain all the way up on the line output converter. Is it okay to have the gain all the way up on the line output converter wont it cause clipping or distortion? but I have searched all over the web and no websites tell me how to adjust gain on a line output converter.

Put them in the middle then crank your stereo up as loud as you'll want to listen to it. Bring the gain knobs up to where they just start clipping and then bring them back a touch. The idea is that you want to get as strong signal (highest signal to noise ratio) into your amp that's not distorting. If the amp has leds or something that indicate the incoming level it's easier.
