How long before we hear about the next blown tranny?

Been hearing about alot of blown trannies lately. So place your bets.

Yes, and hopefully it's not my own. Maybe I just cursed myself.

That's really stunning to read about blown Honda trannies! Let's "hope" it's just a limited batch run problem!

My previous three MT Hondas all had very long-living clutches and trannies. Two of them hit over 200,000 miles with their original trannies--never needed rebuilding or servicing or replacement. The third one has about 110,000 miles with original tranny and clutch.

That would be stunning if Honda MTs were suddenly of crapshoot reliability.

do you guys think honda will issue a Recall for this??

Not yet, but if we see 2 more blown on this board alone, then yes. Then again, the percentage is already very high.

I'm not discounting this problem but also remember that people are mroe likely to sign in and report a problem then to sign in to just say "everything is great." Just a confounding factor to think about. Remember all the AT blown trannies on the cl? It was an absurd percentage reported online...but in reality it was less than 1%.

There are hundreds of members of this board and over 16,000 TSX's on the road. How is two or three reported blown transmissions (not that I don't feel bad for those guys) a major issue already? Also, where is this from DOMN coming from: "Then again, the percentage is already very high." That is a rather powerful statement. Is there a site/source that says "X percentage of MT's have blown transmissions" or is all this info anectdotal?

Ya but there were alot more cls on the road. The TSX has only been on the road for a few months and already we're hearing about multiple tranny issues. I'm not saying the most certainly is a problem, but its something to start watching for and thinking about.

NO!

They're just not going to replace 5,100 transmissions (30% 6-speeds of 17,000 TSXs) if even 20% (1020) are defective! It's just not practical. Given 260 Acura dealers a 20% failure rate is fewer than 4 per dealer over how much time? One transmission to replace every 3 months? Versus 20 transmissions to replace per dealer? All at once?

They didn't recall the Oddy and TL transmissions, they just extended the warranty to 100,000 miles for free. You can also buy the Acuracare 100,000 mile warranty. No doubt it's cheaper than a new transmission.

We bought the Hondacare warranty because of the Oddy stories, then Honda NA extended the factory warranty. (No, they wouldn't refund the Hondacare cost!)

BTW as I read it, the dealers have been rebuilding the manual trannies! I'd be reluctant to accept a rebuild if there's been shrapnel flying around inside the case!
