it should say "codE", and the radio code is 5 digits i believe. input it by rotating the right knob to select a number, the pressing it in to enter the number.

if you have a navi, there is a seperate 4 digit code for the navi, that you enter on the navi screen.

its all in your car's manual, and in many other threads here too.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer. I've never seen ERROR E come up.

I believe it locks the user out if you do too many wrong entries, as an anti-theft measure. take it to the dealership and get ready to bend over

Disconnect power to the audio unit (either pull fuse or disconnect the battery) for around 10min. then reconnect. Will unlock and allow you to enter the anti-theft code....and if your car is non-navi, you enter the code with the preset buttons.
