Drilling out a screw

In April, I swapped an 06 OEM steering wheel into my 04 TSX. This went well, except that I didn't properly re-align the cable reel before mounting the new wheel. As such, my wheel is between 12 and 1 o'clock when the car's tracking straight ahead.

I tried to remove the steering wheel to correct the problem. However, in doing so, I managed to strip the T30 bolt on the left side of the wheel holding the airbag in. It won't budge. I tried an adhesive product called ScrewGrab, but that didn't help at all. The bolt's totally stripped and won't move.

At this point my only option is to drill that bolt out. I've never done that before. Does anybody have any advice for me? What kind of bit should I use?

Clearly, the battery would be disconnected, as would the airbag, before attempting this.

Any help's appreciated. It's more maddening each day to drive this car with a slightly crooked steering wheel!

bolt huh?

http://www.amazon.com/Gator-Grip-ETC.../dp/B000065CJ8

or

should probably be used first by someone not used to what you
want to do.

it's better to try these then to try to drill out the bolt, put a new bolt in,
drill that out, tap that, blah, blah.

Or you could adjust the tie rods to bring the wheel back to center... IE, get a new alignment.

Its OK to do that? I was worried that correcting a poorly-installed steering wheel by changing the alignment might have negative affects on the overall handling of the car... if it's a viable solution then sign me up, that's exactly what I'm going to do!

That's what I'd do....The only thing that might get messed up is auto-cancel on the turn signals might click at a different revolution from right to left.

I just got back from my alignment shop and all is right as rain... I should have just asked you in the first place. Thanks Marcus.
