Cruise control not working***

I have an 04 Tsx that I bought about a month ago. The only thing wrong with the car is that the cruise control doesn't work. I hit the cruise control button on the steering wheel and the "cruise main" light comes on the gauge cluster. But when I go to set it, nothing happens. I read in my owners manual that another light should come on when you set the cruise.. But nothing comes on in my car. I looked for a cruise control fuse, but didn't find anything. Does anyone know what it may be?

no second light comes on in my car.

are you sure?

maybe you think it's not working because the second light
isn't coming on.

sure it doesn't work?

Yeah it doesn't work, I let my foot off the accelerator on the highway and it will just keep slowing down.

I have an '04, and in my car there are two "lights". The first light is the "Cruise Main" light indicating that the cruise control module is turned on. The second light (which is directly above the first) indicates when the cruise control is set and controlling acceleration (I think it just says "cruise").

Have you been able to use the cruise control in the past? Are you positive you are trying to set it correctly?

Like I said, I bought my car a month ago and that was the only thing that was wrong with the car. I push the "cruise main" then click set............... and it doesn't engage.

M/T or A/T??? Probably the most common cause of inop cruise control is either the brake pedal or clutch pedal position switches being out of adjustment. As a quick check try putting your foot under the pedal and pull up (obviously do this only when it's completely clear around you so you don't crash into something). If the cruise sets with "up" pressure on the clutch or brake pedal the switch is out of adjustment.

I tried pulling on the brake and it still didn't engage cruise. But again I do NOT have a second light on.

Anyone else have any ideas of why it isn't working?

It can't be the fuse or the "Cruise Main" wouldn't come on. I think it might be the switch itself. The cruise control is just a piece of software in the drive by wire throttle processing stack. The only discreet piece of equipment in the whole car (A/T anyway) that is dedicated purely to engaging the cruise control is the button on the steering wheel. There's nothing else that could be failing without other (most likely serious) problems showing up. You don't have any check engine lights on do you?

One last thing to check that's fairly easy is the brake lights. The switch that cancels the cruise control when you hit the brakes is the same switch that turns the brake lights on. If that was the problem your brake lights would be on all the time, even when the car is off, so I'm sure you would have noticed by now.

It will only work above a certain speed. I forget what speed, but its in the manual. Are you trying it at highway speeds?

EDIT: Its 25 mph

NO check engine lights, but its funny you should say about the brake lights. Sometimes the brake lights WILL stay on after the car is turned off, but only on very rare occasions. I'll have to restart the car and then turn it off, then the lights will go out. Could that be the problem with it then? And what would be needed to fix that?

Check underneath your brake pedal. Not sure about the TSX, but every other car I've looked at has a little switch or push button like device near the pivot point of the pedal (up under the dash) that will either depress when you push on the pedal or extend depending on whether it's mounted above or below. The Ford setup is above the pedal and there's a little rubber bumper that's attached. Fixed 2 friend's Escorts brake light problems by epoxying a penny to the pedal linkage when the little rubber bumper has fallen off. Might try there and make sure all is properly adjusted.

If I recall correctly it's above the pedal on the TSX. It has a threaded barrel with a locking nut on it. To adjust you back off the locking nut and spin the switch assembly so it moves in or out as needed then tighten the lock nut back down. Oh, and you have to disconnect the wires during the process so they don't end up all twisted around.

Oh and one more thing, there's a black plastic cover on the top of the foot well that needs to be removed. There are friction clips in the front and pegs in the back. Pull the front down then once that's free pull the whole thing straight out towards the back of the car. The clips will be very tight the first time due to corrosion on the cheap metal used. Installation is just the reverse, pegs in the holes then push the front up until it seats. You might have to hit with your fist to seat it all the way back down.

My cruise is having the same problem

hey guys.

well...to go along with my passanger door lock that isn't working...my 2005 tsx brought a new problem to the table yesterday on the way home from work.

the cruise control button wont engage the cruise control system. if you press the button and hold it you see the green cruise light on the dash, but as soon as you let it go the button pops out and the system is disengaged.

has anyone had to fix this? if so, how much did it set you back?

heres are the problems that my car has experienced:

prior to 80,000miles...nothing...just routine upkeep
80,000 to 83,000...pass. door lock/battery/cruise control switch

i hope that nothing else goes

Sounds like the button just went bad. Not sure how you replace that. When you push in on the button, it should "click" and then not come back quite as far as it did before. It looks like the buttons on both sides of the wheel and wiring harness come as one piece. And it looks like you may have to remove the airbag in order to change it out. I'm not sure on that though. And it costs a little more than $160 if you order it from Acura.

Anyone find a fix to this? My cruise control button also will not stay engaged. I press it and the light comes on, but it won't stay depressed. It worked up until about 2 weeks ago, I have had it engaged for over 50K miles.

Easy Fix to Cruise Button not engaging/working

My 04 TSX cruise control was not engaging or working. After searching youtube for diy videos, I found this answer and how to fix my cruise control. The video is on a Honda but the assembly is exactly the same on my TSX. The Mouser electric parts are correct (I bought 3 and with shipping from Texas USA it was under $12USD) and it took me under an hour to take the old switch off and the new one on. Very simple and straight forward.
Good luck and safe travels!

Wow, really spooky timing, I just did this repair last night! I decided to just replace the whole switch assembly. I ordered the part from Delray for $52.58. In retrospect, I'm glad I did as I damaged the connector on the switch side when I disconnected it from the wheel. It is possible to do the repair without removing the airbag, but it is tight and it is hard to get at the connector without damaging it.The Helms manual procedure tells you to remove the airbag first, but I was stripping the right T30 torx bolt trying to loosen it, so I decided to do the repair without removing the airbag.

Glad the cruise is working again, have some long road trips ahead this summer!
