chunk taken out of tire sidewall
noticed a got a small chunk taken out of the sidewall on one of my tires. guess it happended when i hit a curb. its kind of deep, i can see some metal wire in there or something. dont think it lost any air yet. does that kind of damage compramise the tire, or is that just superficial? thanx.

What kind of tire? pics?
I'd replace it just to be on the safe side. could lead to a blowout.

boost owns
I got as far as "I can see some metal wire" and didn't need to read anything beyond that; replace the tire. Actually, you need two new tires, since they should be replaced in pairs; put the two new ones on the rear, and the older ones up front. Not many people know this, but even on a FWD car, that's the safer way to go about it to prevent losing the rear end in low-traction conditions.

Oliver!!!
Oh yeah, if you can see metal, you need to replace it. Its a blowout waiting to happen, and you really don't want it to happen on the highway.
And is it just me, or are there a lot of tire threads today? I had a flat this morning, but it was just a screw, then I come to find a bunch of other tire trouble threads. Weird.

Don't get a BMW. They're maintenance and repair nightmares. They're great while you have it, but it'll spend half it's time in the shop.
