W/ compressor not operating, this just says that under hood temperature was high leading to high static pressures on non-circulating system. It probably does mean there is sufficient charge to cause compressor to engage, if all conditions are met and no other problem such as clutch gap >>, or damaged clutch coil.

good luck

Could someone explain exactly what wires to apply voltage and ground to on the compressor to test the clutch/coil?

Disconnect single wire to compressor. Connect 12v from positive battery post to compressor connector. Even w/ engine off you should hear the clutch click closed.

If nothing, either the compressor coil has failed open, or the clutch gap is too large to allow clutch to close. Rapping the clutch plate will usually cause a closure.

good luck

tested the compressor and by jumping pos 1+2 @ the relay I can see the clutch engage, so must be something in front of the relay.

so now, it decided to work.. so odd.
Any idea on what to test?

Can someone test a working relay using the method below and tell me if the continuity test works unpowered?

All 3 of my relays don't have continuity between the 1 and 4 pin when unpowered, but everything seems to be working as it should right now.

I think you have a faulty diagram.

If 1-2 are the solenoid driver circuit, they should show continuity. 3-4 are the switched poles and should show open unless power is applied to 1-2, when they should show closed circuit (dead short).

Usually a small diagram is printed on side of the relay showing which are solenoid and which are switch terminals.

good luck
