Broken iVTEC!!! It really is broken!!!!
well i took my car to acura today and they told me that my iVTEC was not turn on. They said that when the iVTEC is suppose to inguage, the oil pressure drops and the cars goes into safety mode. They're keeping the car overnight to see what they can do in the morning. This all the problems started after i went to walmart to get an oil change and my car has never been the same since then. I gunna really suck cause I just finished payoff my TSX a month ago and now im just lost my job on last friday. They spent two hours today working on it so i know thats gunna be more the $150. Why oh why did walmart fcuk me over like this. It really sucks to be me right now.

I bet you they used too thick an oil. Your dealer should drain it out and refill with the proper 5w-30 stuff.
And please stay away from walmart oil changes........

You don't know for sure if its because of the wrong oil. Even if they put the other high volume oil visc. which is 10/30, that wouldn't cause the i-VTEC to stop functioning. Its not that thick. Do the oil yourself or like someone said, stand beside, I don't trust those guys. There are a lot of parameters that must be met prior to i-VTEC engaging properly. In a related example, in my 94 Accord, the tranny didn't go into overdrive, after months of searching it turned out to be the thermostat not bring the temp to full operating and the computer refusing to use o/d. Good Luck.

High viscosity motor oil shouldn’t directly affect the operation of the VTEC mechanism like that--and most certainly wouldn't result in an oil pressure drop. Assuming no other failure occurred; high viscosity oil would actually cause the VTEC switch to occur a few microseconds faster than normal. So... maybe they filled the crankcase with ATF or brake fluid? ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
However high viscosity oil can result in oil pressure spikes that might exceed design parameters. Such a spike could've damaged an o-ring or seal in the pressure circuit--causing oil pressure to leak down before it is able to actuate the locking pins. The symptoms you describe make it sound like this is the case. Learn what you can about the actual cause, I'd be curious to know.

I would never get an oil change at walmart. One of my friends got an oil change there and the same day his car stalled. He checked the dip stick and it was dry...

Well even though I had a couple good laughs with all the post, I still wish you the best and let this be a lesson.. Do not , Do not take your expensive car to wal-mart for a oil change.
