Bought a denso oem replacement from rock auto for $120 or so. After swapping it out myself, the battery light stays on. Voltage output is 14v and battery is at 12v on startup so things indicate all is good. Apparently this light coming on after a swap is a very common problem in hondas.

i bit the bullet and bought an oem from acura. Update to follow. Just wanted to warn others of this possibility.
