Acura TSX Maintenance

Hey guys I am looking at an 2004 Acura tsx with 135,000 kms on it and I was wondering what the car should have got done for a 135,000 car and fixes that may come when I get the car.

Thankss

It's an '04 so check on the AC and see if it's been fixed or not. I've heard it's an ongoing problem for those that it's a problem for. (That made sense in my head, so hopefully it does in writing too.) If it's been changed, you may be looking at having to do it again soon, so expect that expense. If it hasn't, it's a good one and you probably won't need to.
It's a 6 year old vehicle, so your suspension is 100% worn out if it's still original and you'll have to replace that. Well you don't have to, but you will if you're considering a nice vehicle. Also have a mechanic you trust check out the steering and drivetrain components to make sure all is ok. Alot can happen in 6 years and about 100,000 miles.
Obviously, ever fluid in the vehicle will have to be changed so expect that expense. Normal wear and tear items should be looked at. Brakes, rotors, clutch, tires... A 2,000 dollar vehicle that requires new brakes, rotors, tires, a clutch, and axles is more expensive that a 4,000 dollar vehicle that doesn't. Follow what I'm saying?
A carfax type report couldn't hurt, but could reveal problems, assuming they were reported to carfax or your choice of reporting service. Just bear in mind that the car could have been extensively damaged even if nothing shows up in such a report.

Please don't let my post scare you, it's just as likely that the car will need no work at all and is a wonderful deal. I just wanted to point out some of the things to look for when looking for a used vehicle.

There is nothing you can do with the A/C until it breaks. For some, they've had this issue more than once, but for others, not at all. Fortunately, I've been lucky with my '04.

As for any issues, you can use the search function to look up threads in the forum.

That mileage figure isn't bad at all for an 04 anything (around 84K miles). But.... this is also a point where good regular maintenance could make a difference. The service interval is 10K miles for the 04 model, though a number of maintenance items are really time dependant, not mileage related. I agree that you should take the age of the car into consideration. The brake, transmission, and power steering fluids, along with the coolant, all should have been changed by now. Possibly brakes; rotors can be troublesome on the TSX. Pad life is directly related to the type of miles. It seems that some have gone through rear pads rather quickly, though it also seems that all highway miles tend to allow for very long pad life (my experience). Try to get a service history, but plan on changing out a few things anyway like cabin and air filters, and and oil and filter change of course.

But... all that said, I'd only consider it if it was a really good deal. Though some here will differ (which is good, that's what this forum is for), there have been too many 04 horror stories related in threads in this forum for me to give an 04 a second look unless the price was really right; even then I'd probably look for an 05 (like mine with almost 114K miles on it). The 04's do seem to have more than it's share of the "first year" blues.

Yes. I agree with Simba91102. Stick with a 2005. Of course, I am a little biased. I happen to own one.

I have an '04 with 121k miles on it and other than the A/C issue it's been a solid car. I was fortunate enough to have the A/C system fixed under warranty. 1st time around the entire A/C system was replaced, and the 2nd time around (like less than 1k miles after work was completed) they replaced the replacement compressor . This was all around 90k miles...so the A/C system has been solid since then! *knocks on wood*

Itchytoe - I wouldn't assume that the car's suspension is 100% worn out. I haven't replaced any suspension components and everything is still within spec. I guess this depends on how the car was driven, the conditions it was driven in, and where the car was driven.
