2006 TSX AFR Sensor DIY
2006 TSX AFR Sensor DIY
Finally found the Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR) sensor today - aka Primary O2 sensor - bank 1 sensor 1 - aka upstream O2 sensor (one upsteam and one downsteam of the catalytic convertor). Only two O2 sensors in the 2.4L iVtec engine. I was throwing a P0135 code.
1. Jack up the car and place on jack stands.
2. Sensor is accessible from UNDER the car - in the exhaust pipe. Draw an imaginary line between the bottom front of the passenger door and the bottom front of the driver's door. The sensor is almost exactly in the center of that line - pointing TOWARDS the bottom of the driver's side front door.
3. If you are standing at the front of the car looking backwards, the sensor is at the 3 o'clock position, threaded into the exhaust pipe. Mine was EASILY unthreaded with a large adjustable wrench - no O2 sensor socket needed.
4. From underneath, unscrew the sensor from the pipe - then follow the blue plastic wire up to the connector - removing the covered wire from the 2 clips on the way UP to the connector.
5. Go up top - the sensor plugs into a wiring harness easily accessible from the driver's side fender - just past the brake fluid reservoir and DOWN about 10 inches (look for the BLUE covered wire - it's the only one there) - on the BACK side of the engine - before the firewall. Unplug the connector and remove the old sensor.
6. Lower the new sensor from the top (I used a wire tie to hold the sensor CLOSE to the connector while installing the new sensor).
7. From underneath, thread the new sensor into the exhaust pipe - tighten until you feel the washer CRUSH - then tighten another 1/8 turn. (Use anti-seize compound on the threads if desired).
8. Place the blue wire into the 2 clips on the way UP to the connector.
9. Go back up top - plug the connector into the wiring harness - again, by leaning over the driver's side fender. Clear codes and check to ensure the P0135 is gone.
BTW - based on Acurazine postings, I bought the Denso Wideband 234-9066 sensor - expensive ($239.99 at Advanced Auto) - but I saved $$ since the dealer wanted $342.18 for the same sensor - and another $214.86 to install it.
I'll post pics soon.
