2006 5AT loss of power at high load, high rpm
Hi all, this is my first post here, so I apologize if I break any rules. I've had an 06 automatic TSX for a couple of months now. It's got a lot of miles (around 187k right now), but is in overall great shape. I've started noticing that when accelerating hard, above 5k rpm or so (more pronounced above 6k), it feels like the car loses power. It's not very consistent, happens maybe half the time those conditions are met. I also have only noticed it in 3rd gear, but I can't be sure it doesn't happen in other gears. It doesn't shake, so I don't think it's a misfire (I installed new NGK plugs recently anyway). I thought the transmission might be slipping, but I don't see any unexpected rise in RPM. When the issue happens, the car continues accelerating, just slower, and I can see the tach needle dropping a bit every now and then (It's had to keep a close eye on it at speed though). I've read that it's not uncommon to have a problem with the accelerator pedal position sensor, but this issue never happens at low rpm or low load. My best guess is that the 'lifetime' fuel strainer on the pump may be getting clogged, or the fuel pump itself may be on its way out, and the engine is starving for fuel in these situations.
If anyone has experienced something similar, I would appreciate any advice on where to start finding a definite solution.
Thanks!
