Tsx536: New Camera, new pics
I'll be leaving tomorrow for a vacation to NYC and Baltimore. I might be hooking up with JMathew around Sep 4th or 5th. If anyone else is going to be around, let me know!
Anyway, I bought a new Camera for the trip. Nothing too special, just a Panasonic TZ3s (Point and shoot camera with 10x Optical). Anyway, here are some quick test pics I took. I played with the "cool" color setting on a couple of them. The camara does widescreen, so the pics are in 16:9 aspect ratio.

Anyone have any tips for night photos?
Is there a way to get decent ones, even without extra external lighting?
For those with Point and shoot cameras, what kinds of settings do you guys change for night photos?

Darnit Kenny, there you go, waving those wheels in my face again.
Just kidding Have a nice trip, we're swapping places on almost the same day! I leave at the buttcrack of dawn Saturday morning.
Oh and for night shots, just try to keep the camera as steady as possible. Stabilize it on a rock or table or something, if there is anything available. You should have a night mode on your camera as well, and if you can adjust ISO, make it higher (~800 or more). Just keep in mind that higher ISO = more "noise."
What vineyard do you own? I'll be at some vineyards probably next weekend and/or early the following week around Labor Day. (Sonoma-Napa area)

Hey Kenny, you can do better than this, nice pix none the less.
I have a Panasonic point and shoot camera too from last year, I think it's one of the best out there (except DSLR), and they are the only P&S that has 28mm wild angle lens.
For night shoot, you will need to play around to get a hold of it.
Shutter speed --> As slow as possible, I think mine can only goes to -1 (slowest, and will capture more light compare w/ -1/2 or -1/8)
ISO --> The higher the brighter, however it does equal to more noise too. Try to use ISO 100-400, anything higher will be too "noisy". But of course, if it's TOO dark, then you will need to go higher like ISO800-1600.
Scene Mode--> I've tried MANY MANY manual setting on my Panasonic P&S for night picture, but still can't beat the quality of "Night Scenary" mode. Make sure you have a tripod and you are good to go.

I think you have the exact same camera as I do, except last years model. Do you have the Panasonic TZ1?
I will try the other modes that you're talking about. I did have a good experience with the Night scenery mode. Sounds like I need to get a tripod.

No matter how's steady your hand is your pix will still be blurry (depending on how steady you are). A tripod is a must, if you don't have a tripod putting it on a firm object will help too.
This picture was taken WITHOUT tripod, thus angle are limited, it's sitting on a flat rock.
This picture was taken WITH tripod.

Very nice man
Are you directly under a bright light on the second pic?
My night pics are always so dark, but I guess I don't take them in brightly lit up areas.
...11 hours until I fly out

Sonoma & Napa
I was there a few months ago, took my TSX on a road trip to San Francisco to visit some friends, while out there we hit up all the wineries. Got a good buzz. Enjoy wine country.
I want to go back again!!
