Talking Tein Super Street Installed

Hello all.

Well, my car has been begging me for a drop, today it got it.

Before:

After:

The drop is actually lower than it looks here.
Probably because of the hill I'm parked on...
There's right about 1/4" gap on all tires.

I really need some rims now!!!

You guys like, or no?
And I need some lips too...

Will it ever end?

hope not.

I'm waiting for the springs to settle first.
I'm going to be as low as I can be and still get away with it.
I'll probably drop another 1/4" in about 2-3 weeks, after things
settle in a bit.

No camber kit will be needed for me.
Just a real thorough alignment is all I'll need.

When I'm done, the fenders will basically be flush with the top
of the tires.
I don't want to tuck, but I want to be about as close to tucking
as possible.

Adding the progress RSB really helped. The car now handles at least
as good as it did stock, no loss of quality of ride or anything, it's very nice.

got a couple questions? what do you mean when you say you're going to go as low as you can be and still get away with it? get away with what?
second, why dont you think you need a rear camber kit? and just a thorough alignment? Are you just going to get it aligned to as close as factory specs as possible without a camber kit? The reason i ask is, because when i first put on tein H-tech springs, they said i could still get within factory specs but it was real close, so when i swithced to the tein basic coilovers, i needed a camber kit because it did drop lower and they couldnt get it back within factory specs which i needed to get done to get it past our recon laws here in hawaii. I was just a little confused when you said you dont need a camber kit, just a thorough alignment

1. Get away with what?
I'll go as low as I can and get away with not scraping up the bottom of the car
or wrecking on a speed bump or whatever. Or those kinda steep driveways
around here...

2. Do you need a camber kit?
READ ME PLEASE (Marcus explains this better than I do.)
When I made my appointment to have the Tein SS's installed, I told the shop I
would probably need a rear camber kit after I dropped the car. Like an Ingalls
or something I said, that seems to be common from what I read. The guy at
the performance shop told me we'd have to wait and see. He said most likely
I wouldn't need one, but we'd determine that after the alignment is done.

So today after the install I asked him about the camber kit. He told me that
a quality alignment and a toe angle correction would be the best setup I could
get with my car. A rear camber kit is simply not needed. He asked me to bring
him the alignment results (I'm having some other place do it) for inspection
and final judgement. He said he was positive though I didn't need a camber kit.

Advanced Automotive Concepts.

Great company.
They installed them for me, quick, professional, quality, and a lifetime guarantee.
They're so nice looking in person, I turn everybody's heads with them on.

that is totally clean and mean!!! I'm curious though, what was the procedure like to get to the rear strut assembly? I'm going to be doing this one the weather gets warmer here in toronto. *sigh* all I can do is stare at the Tein box in my room.....

Oh god, I don't know. I had a racing shop (performance shop) do it.
They charged me $250 for the install.
It took them 5.5 hours to do the SS's and also a Progress RSB.

I know they had to dismantle the interior in the back of the car.
When I showed up the interior was out of the car and they were
just finishing with the coilovers.

Installing coilovers really take that long?! 5.5 hours?! I installed the same RSB on the floor with the help of a member here and that took around two hours and I'm a sure the shop lifted up the car to install so that'll probably be like an hour at most. Some four hours for coilover installation... wow O_O I knew it was long... but not that long... (this is of particular interest to me because I'm also getting the same coilovers some time next month)

How are the bumps? Even at that height, you're still free from scraping under normal driving right?

Bumps are fine.
And yeah, at this height I'm just fine. I can go over speed bumps at this height.
I can also just barely fit under a lift at this height too.

Ride is real nice, as good as stock at least.

Oh, and it was just one guy doing the work.
Maybe that's why it took so long.

5 hrs is a LONG TIME. Usually it takes about 3hrs or less to install everything if the process is smooth; without alignment. Most of the shops here charge $150ish - 200 for coilover (except Acura dealership, they want $750 to install incl. alignment lol), but we do have ALOT of shops in the city so I guess the price is more competitive?

I think I heard your car whinning for a set of lipkit and some baller rims... haha..

Oh yeah, it's screaming practically.
I'll listen to it, but it needs to wait a bit.
My wife wants to me wait a little while. She says it won't be any fun
if I just mod it all at once. I need to look forward to something.

I'll just need to wait a bit and then sneak the rims on, maybe she won't
even notice!

I'll have them within a month, I'm sure.
Euro R front lip
Not sure on sides or back yet

Your wife agrees with Lewis Black - with us humans, the single greatest moment isn't the moment itself, but the anticipation of the moment.

You'll enjoy the rims more if you wait a while.

Nice looking car, btw.

Marcus (Mr. Heeltoe) did it solo in under 2 hours, and he didn't need to take out the interior.

07carbontsx and I installed a-spec in his car, and it took us about 2 hours I think without removing the interior.

Your rear camber may be out of alignment, but with a correct toe setting, you won't experience major tire wear. Personally I don't like the look of the rear tires leaning inward.

Well first off, this is not a race.
I went to a very professional racing shop with a very good reputation.
A very competant mechanic installed the SS's and the RSB at the same time, solo.
He did the job correctly, and that's how long it took.
So whatever on that really... who cares how long it took?
It was a flat rate install.

As for the tires...

A camber kit isn't really needed, granted.
However I do agree, I don't like the tilt. I was looking at it today, and I may
get a camber kit anyway, just to straighten the wheel out.
I like the straight look, I don't like the tilted look, not at all.

So we'll see... I'll make it look right.

i'm tripping on the install time though, 5.5hrs for a coilover/RSB install? Maybe 3hrs tops for me to drop a car

.
i didnt say you needed one, i said you need one if you expect to get back into factory specs. I know toe angle correction and alignment is gonna help and not wear the tires that fast, but, theres no way i think, you can get back to factory specs which is required here in hawaii. anyways, as for drop, i dont know how bad the driveways and stuff is there, there are some huge ones here, but i still scrape once in a while the bottom of the front lip, but, thats how it goes i guess for the look i want.....by the way, nice mod...

I have the TEIN SS's on my '07 Si and I would agree with letting the springs settle and then definitely lowering more. It definitely looks sick and it definitely looks better but right now it looks like an aggressive spring drop.

It actually did settle a fair amount.
I'm riding right now on a zero gap.
The top of my tires are flush horizontally with the bottom of the fenders.
Looks hot!

So they settled a full 1/4 in about 2 weeks.
These are coming off though...
No more Tein SS for my car.

...

Yes, I'm selling them.

Why?

Why you ask?

I'm moving to the CST.
It seems I can get the same drop on the CST, but have EDFC, so I'm going to try
it out.

My 2008 Tein Dealer Catalog says it is, so I'll trust it.
It says Mono Flex, CST and Flex are compatible.

All using the EDK05-12120 EDFC unit, All a direct fit.

The SS is also EDFC capable, but it won't fit for whatever reason.
Not on the TSX that is.
It says that there's not enough space (back wheels).

?

I'm going for it, wish me luck.

Then do what I'm doing, go with the Tein Comfort Sport.

I'll report on the ride comfort with critical detail after I install the CST tomorrow.
But I'm guessing it will be comprable to stock.

To the OP...ride quality will definitely improve with the CSTs, but they will NEVER handle as well as the SSs due to the much softer spring rates.

It's all about personal preference, I suppose.

good luck with the swap and please comment on the similarities/differences between the ss and cs. fyi, w/o a camber kit you will probably have uneven tread wear

yeah, I'll probably need a rear camber kit after the new rims go on.
I'll let the alignment tell me exactly what needs to be done for even tread wear.
If I need a camber kit, I'll get one.
